it's gettin there kinda...if someone has this decal on their cover tho if they would simply make a scan of it for me and email it I could print it out on sticky paper...my decal is too old and wrinkled up/dirty.....the whites aren't white etc like u can see.

I just need a close up scan of one! but so far since that hasn't happened this is what I did...it's not good enough tho I started from scratch this cut and pasted a pic of my old decal in there...I made the background and borders but as u can see PAINT looks rigid..the lines aren't smooth.

Good luck making it look right with Paint. There are a few free photo programs out there. I can't think of any, because I use Photoshop CS (but I'm not good enough to be of any help to you).

Hopefully there's somebody on here who knows what they're doing with photoshop, and they can whip you something right up. Good luck, I wish I could help you out!

You can get a professional quality decal made pretty easily. The first thing you need to understand is don't use a raster image format (.bmp, .jpg, .gif, etc...). These types of images are made of dots on a grid. This is limiting because the image can't be scaled up or down without distorting.

What you want is a vector image, which is based on the math that defines all the curves. These images can be scaled from postage stamp size to billboard size with ZERO loss of quality. Any time a professional logo is created, it's done with this type of file. This is because they can use this file to put their logo on anything and be 100% certain it will look the same every time. Examples of vector image software would be Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw.

You can download the Mercruiser logo in vector format here:

You won't be able to open the .eps file in paint, but don't worry.

Take that, and the image of the sticker to a sign shop and they can make you a real good one. If they can match the font at the bottom it'll look perfect.

Here's an example of how the image scales. I took the second logo, and scaled it up to 3 feet. I had to crop it because it was too big to post, but you'll see what I mean. Try that in paint and see what you end up with.;)

The second image is the same logo, only this time scaled to 12 feet! The image was 5GB before I cropped it.:eek:

thanks for the tip! thats something I def. didn't know.

but I took my original logo to 6 YES 6! sign/custom graphic shops and they all wouldn't do anything with it because they said that mercruiser logo is protected...

they sent me to office max they said that wouldn't care but ofcourse when they scanned my old decal it didn't turn out good at all so I didn't even take it.

:( looks like it's all up to me and my limited talent lol.

Hi Weider1717,

My wife works with Illustrator, etc. at work... She's very familiar with vector fonts, etc. (She already has the logo done.) She can make this for you, but she needs the precise dimensions (in inches) involving:

* Outside dimensions (widest width, top width, bottom width... Ditto for side dimensions)
* Red border dimension
* Width of logo, length of logo, etc.
* Font heights, widths

It might be easiest if you simply lay a ruler across what you have and take a few pics with the ruler in different orientations...

Once she's done, we'll convert the .eps file to an appropriately sized jpg and get that to you... Should not take too long once we have the dimensions... 60 min.

Alan and Suzie

P.S. Here's a rough... Once we have the req'd sizes, we can adjust the eps file and then convert to jpg and get it back to you...
