Just for the record, this cat was taken in Washington State, not OK or any of the other places in which the story is supposedly takes place. It also wasn't circling a tree with a hunter in it. If I remember correctly from the article that I read a couple of days ago, it was stalking some livestock when the shooter bagged it.

So Mike, what you're saying is that it's ok for me to shoot you just because I felt threatened by you? Imagine this scenario, you come home and find me in your house UNINVITED, walking all over your furnitures. You proceeds to get rid of me because you don't want me to be in your house. I feel threaten by your getting rid of me so I shoot you first in fear of you will shoot me. Perfectly OK by your shoot first, reason later mentallity. The scenario above is no different then a hunter in the wood, a person hiking through the wood or all those housing developments, recreational areas in CA that encroached or took over wild life habitats. Killing a big cat just because you're in its presence is really irresponsible.

Are people that naive?

What a ridiculous analogy!

Photoshop is a great thing and thats what this is.

But If that animal walked by me in the Woods it would be shot instantly!

Who is naive? how would that be a ridiculous analogy? and YOU my friend is so void of compassion that it's disturbing. Animals live in the wood, that's their home. They never have and never will ask you to disturb them. If you get attack while in the wood then it's your own doggone fault.

BTW, I can't stand what Peta does and it's not photoshopped. You should get your facts straight. Read the whole thread before inputting your 2 cents.

Re: Here KITTY KITTY KITTY

If someone has a legal permit/liscense to hunt cougars, and they are in season, etc... then I have no problem with them being hunted. That's not the kind of pressure that takes them to extinction because the DNR won't allow them to be hunted if they are not overpopulated. It's the illegal poaching I have a problem with.

As far as I know, cats don't hunt by scent, though they may be curious about a new scent they havn't smelled before. At any rate, the report from a rifle shot is more than enough to scare almost anything away, so he could have shot into the ground if he really believed it was stalking him.

The bottom line is this, if you're going to go hunting, make sure that what you shoot is in season and you have a valid liscense that lets you legally kill it. Anything else is uncalled for unless it is physically attacking you.

Re: Here KITTY KITTY KITTY

I finally found the pic of the cougar that I mentioned in my earlier posts - see below. This cat weighs 200 pounds (which on the larger size for a cougar) and if you compare his body and head size to mine, you get an idea of what the proportions between a cougar and man should be. Bear in mind that I am 5'9-1/2" tall and weighed about 190 pounds in that pic. The guy in the original photo weighs 175 and is 5'10" tall, so we aren't that different in size. That said, the cat shown is much bigger all around than my cat - based on the apparent proportions, it would have to weigh well over 300 pounds and cougars just don't get that big.

One other thing that I didn't notice until I just looked at the pic today, is that the resolution of the photo where the man's head is depicted, is quite a bit different than that of the cat. I do a lot of digital photography and use Photoshop quite a bit and, to me, this pic has "composite" all over it. My guess is that the head is what was added because it is too small in relation to both the cat and man's body. Since the human head is the most obvious reference point for comparative size, that's what was used to make the cat look huge.

Re: Here KITTY KITTY KITTY

A biker is riding by the zoo, when he sees a little girl leaning into the lion's cage. Suddenly, the lion grabs her by the cuff of her jacket and tries to pull her inside to slaughter her, under the eyes of her screaming parents. The biker jumps off his bike, runs to the cage and hits the lion square on the nose with a powerful punch.

Whimpering from the pain the lion jumps back, letting go of the girl. The biker brings her to her terrified parents, who thank him endlessly.

A reporter has seen the whole scene, and addressing the biker, says - "Sir, this was the most gallant and brave thing I saw a man do in my whole life."

"It was nothing, really, the lion was behind bars. I just saw this little kid in danger, and SOMEBODY had to save her."

"Well, I'll make sure this won't go unnoticed. I'm a journalist, you know", he reporter said, "and tomorrow's papers will have this on the front page. What motorcycle do you drive?"

"A Harley Davidson."

The journalist leaves.

The following morning the biker buys the paper to see if it indeed brings news of his actions, and reads, on the front page:

BIKER GANG MEMBER ASSAULTS AFRICAN IMMIGRANT AND STEALS HIS LUNCH.

:D Just thought I would try to bring a little levity to the thread. :D
