Hi,

Take a look at this automobile and then read the post below....

I bet if the world took a poll...the Mercedes CLS550 would win by a landslide as the best looking 4-door sedan on the market today. The thing's just gorgeous! No other car compares!

So; what's keeping Ford or GM or Chrysler from essentially copying the design and producing it at a low to modest price point? Instead of all the US car companies producing cookie-cutter similar versions of cars that look like a Ford Taurus; why don't they copy a design that's beautiful?

They'd sell millions of them!

It hardly seems like a car's outward design could be copyrighted....if it was; there would not be so many nearly identical bland cars on the road today.

I've been looking for a new car for a while now.....most anything that I can afford is just too damn ugly. I keep driving my 1993 Camry.

Detroit.....are you listening?

A: It's not copyrighted, but it IS patented... in fact, probably every part on that car, and in fact every car, is likely patented.

B: You really think that looks good? Beauty must be in the eye of the beholder... I think it's ugly. I do happen to like the looks of the Audi A4 though... as well as the Chevy Impala (if it's got the rear spoiler, they are kinda ugly without it).

C: People tend to like vehicles like that, for no other reason than that they are a luxury. If they become cheap... people will stop desiring them, as owning one will do nothing to "keep up with the Jones'"

I agree it's nice looking. Look for a Hyundai knock off soon.

SK12... you like it so much, why not buy one? Then you wouldn't have to wait for a copy....

Personally, I prefer something like the http://www.bugatti.com/en/veyron-16.4.html

Don't we all? But I'm sure we can all agree that the Bugatti is, quite frankly, the best car ever built... not moreso for what's under the hood than for it's style. But next time I have 4 mil. laying around to spend on a car, I'll be sure to pick one up.

If we're talking a reasonably priced American 4dr sedan, like every man can usually afford, a few come to mind that I have liked better then a Camry: a Grand Prix, Monte Carlo, Dodge Charger, Chrysler 300, Chevy Impala, and a Cadillac STS. Foriegn cars, a Nissan Maxima, or Nissan Altima.

Well, I have been a certified Mercedes Benz nut for about 50 years. . .since I drove a 1958 200SE. I have owned 9 Mercedes, a Jaguar, a Chrysler and a Cadillac, not to mention numerous, mostly Ford, trucks.

I currently own my 9th Mercedes, a 1999 ML430 and it is the best luxury/truck/limo/tow/off road/sports car I have ever owned.

So what I prefer in terms of luxury features, ride, handling, panache and engineering is pretty clear.

Style is another matter. I think my 1968 Mercedes 280SE sedan was the best looking sedan I ever owned.

My son has a 2003 Mercedes CL500. I don't like it. It is hard to get into and harder to get out of. The view from inside is too limited to stuff near the ground. While the performance, handling and comfort are superior I still think it is ugly. . . like they built a real sedan, then squashed it. It is much more styled like a sports car than a sedan. The CLS550 is even uglier. . .my idea of a pimp/bling mobile.

For me there is no better vehicle at any price than a first generation (a truck, not a crossover) Mercedes ML. I would probably enjoy the ML55 AMG even more than my ML430, provided it was a first gen vehicle with a stiff frame and a 2 speed truck transfer case. I haven't driven a GelandeWagen, but I would probably like it, too.

I don't find that appealing at all. If I had to choose a four door sedan, it would probably be circa '06 Accord (not the newest body style). Plus, it would be a good bit cheaper, and lets not even get into comparing the cost of repair bills....

But, why would anyone want to own something less than a truck? 3/4 ton longbed or nothing. I can't tow my boat with a car, or pick up 2 tons of gravel or crossties in a car either. Plus, as the old song goes "There's something women like about a pickup man..."

And rear wheel drive to boot. I've driven one, rather aggressively and it was fun. V8, RWD, now that's my cup o' tea.

The Mercedes-Benz E550 good car but seems overpriced at more than $60,000. And only retains 26 percent of its value after 5 years. (Kelley Blue Book)

It drops that much or more in a year here, after 4 years they are all but unsaleable. Only for export sales, because of reliability/guarantee issues. They also have a “Pimping Bling Bling” image in Germany. You also have to pay 30-40% more here, than in the States, and they come with no included goodies. Every little extra, cost an arm and a leg.

If Mercedes, then a old school built for life Mercedes.

When they started to try to keep up with the Japanese in the electronics sector of their cars, the ruined them. The Germans do excellent mechanical engineering, but their electronics is the Achilles’ Heel, and is a fatal weakness in most of their products now.
