I've posted a few missadventures that my Dad and his Aggie buddy
(who is also a early 60's issue US Marine Lt.) had had. Here's another funny one-

"How funny is it"? you ask.......

Well,,,, I think this one is funnier than watching a class at "Clown College".

And, let me tell ya, 'Clown College' is really hilarious...

.....

OK:

Bear in mind now, my Pop would remind ya of the old cartoon "Mr. Magoo", and his buddy is the poster child of why there are 'Aggie' jokes in Texas instead of Pollack jokes.

Anyway:
Years ago, Pop had a 27' Sea Ray on the lake.

He needed to get it back to town so he could do a bottom job on it himself. But the boat didn't have a trailer. So he sort of borrowed the one from his 23 footer (with no trailer brakes either) that was in his driveway just 'sitting around'.

He put both in the lake, took the 27 footer and put it on the 23 footer's trailer. Heck, he was only going 100 miles one way,,,, what could happen?

After some screaming and knashing of teeth,,,,,
He borrowed my 1/2 ton '84 Chevy with almost 200,000 miles on it to make the pull. The truck did survive this adventure. (I sold it years later with almost 250,000 miles on the original engine & trans- without overhaul, and it was pulling just fine and the AC still worked)

He got this 10,000 -- maybe it was 14,000 pounds- I forget--- boat onto the trailer (with no brakes) rated for 7500 pounds OK.
Sure it came up short, so instead of transom savers--because the rear roller was about 4 feet up under the back end of the boat,,,, he just tied both outdrives up to the handrail running across the stern of the boat.

Him and his Aggie buddy got it loaded and headed back to town. Sure, POP missed a few exits on the hi-way learning how long it takes to stop such a load with a 1/2 ton truck,,,,, but they kept it moving in the right direction anyway.

Going down the interstate, a tire came off the tandem trailer, and after crossing 3 lanes of traffic and the median,, it came to rest a few hundred yards away, up on the shoulder of the oposing lane of traffic.

After a bit of MAD!!! headlight flashing,,,,,,,

Pop pulled over. His Aggie buddy who was following him, since they had no trailer lights either, did too. But he pulled his car around and parked beside the trailer so he wouldn't be first in line if a drunk driver was cruising down the shoulder of the free-way.............

His buddy made the hike over to the other side of the free-way and retrieved the tire.

They robbed a lug nut off each wheel of the truck and got it back on. Then Pop took off,,,,,, oblivious ot whatever was behind him.....

Well,,,,,

His buddy took off to..

Well, he tried to anyway.

His car had sunk in the mud up to the floor pan.

......

Quick as a cat,,,,,,

Pop is long gone, and its 2 AM Sunday nite.

..........

After putting some major money on his cell phone bill,

His Aggie buddy finally gets a wrecker to come and yank him out of the mud. .... For $200 cash.

Sure, $200 is a bit much for a 15 foot tow,,,
but it is after 2 AM Sunday night....

"A deal is a deal" **** as we say.........
And that's what it took to get the wrecker driver out of the beer joint at such a un-Christian hour.......

*****
A 'Deal' or a 'bargain' is where both parties think they screwed the other.
*****

.....

Everythings fine until he gets up to about 25 mph.

Then his car starts heaving and jumping up and down as he tries to merge onto the free-way........

He calls me the next afternoon (still)in a tizzy,,,,

After the formalities, and me trying to stifle my laughter, he asks me, "Do you know how sensative your car is when a 1/4 ounce wheel weight is missing or in the wrong place"?

"Yeah".

"Well, How do you think your car would handel if you had mud packed into 1/2 or your wire wheel hub caps"?

Rather than answer,
I had to set the phone down and walk away for about 15 minutes of nonstop and incoherant cussing.

I picked it back up time to hear, "It took me about $20 worth of quarters to get all that #### sprayed out of my hubcaps at the car wash this morning after taking over 4 hours of limping down the shoulder of the free-way at 20 mph or less for about 100 miles for me to get home."

..

I can just see him going down the free-way with all 4 of his tires about 5 pounds off balance ,,,,,

After partying all Friday nite, all Saturday nite, working with a hangover to help get that rig on the road Sunday evening, finally getting a tow truck called at 2 AM, then wresteling a car for another few hours to get home.....

Is that funny or what?

To answer your next question,
No. He didn't make it to work before 0800 Monday. It was about mid afternoon on Thursday before he got himself 'right'.

(Did I ever mention I have a great sense of humor, but very little sympathy when it comes to the trials and tribulations of Marine Officers?
S/F,
Ed.
SSGT USMC)
