I have a 1989 100 HP Johnson - V4. I have a water separator and an in-line fuel filter (one of those small white plastic filters)
I never had the fuel filter but I put one in for added protection. However, my engine would hesitate and drop RPM while I was going for about 10 - 15 minutes at 3/4 speed. I was not sure what the problem was.............but I removed the in-line fuel filter and the problem went away.
What do you think it was? Fuel pump is getting weak? Is a fuel/water separator AND an in-line filter too much resistance for the pump?
What is more important? Separator or filter? or does the fuel/water separator ALSO act as a filter?
Kindly advise when you get a chance.
Thanks!
