So you found an 8 year old thread about an engine that is 3 years older than yours, and you want to make that information fit yours ?????? Why? Do you have a Mercruiser serial number for your engine? That's how you find the right parts, by serial number.

Year of your boat doesn't mean that is the year of your engine package. Engine serial numbers, numbers on the carb itself, that's how you find the right kit.

I know that. But that thread addresses the same issue I'm having right now is tracking down the kit for my carb. He has the 9600 carb just like I do, doesn't matter if it's on a 4.3lx or a 454 mag, it's the same carb, right?

Not necessarily. Revisions are always made on products due to performance issues. Some carb kits even include special instructions stating if you have model# this to this, use this instead of this........Stop beating yourself up and get the serial off the motor and get the proper kit.

Ok. Thanks. Just don't have much (any) experience with automotive/ marine carburetors. So will the kit have in it specific tuning instructions? Will I need special tools/ gauges to calibrate it?

Yes it will have your necessary adjustments such as float drop, float level, etc. No special toold required. Highly advise a new float since it is apart. One thing I will caution you on is this....After these carbs are factory built, they go down the paint line where they are sprayed with a marine epoxy. The spraying is indescriminate and usually coats the inside of the phillips screw head where you put the screwdriver to take the screws out. Especially difficult are the ones burried around the casting in the airhorn. MAKE SURE you have a good bite on the screw head because you have to break the epoxy paint seal. I personally take the phillips screwdriver and tap it with a small hammer to try to break the paint seal. One boogered up screw head and your day will get worse.

Thanks for the advice. I stripped the head of a phillips screw once on a jet ski carb once, Spent the rest of the afternoon cursing and sweating and swearing at it. Not fun.

Just had the carb rebuilt. Runs a lot better but I still get hesitation if I go from idle to dumping the throttle quick like as if I was pulling up a skier. no issue if I ease into the throttle.

Thoughts?

Ayuh,.... Has the carb been Adjusted since the install,..??

messed with the three settings on the accelerator pump linkage, got it on the middle one. What other adjustments are there? Carb was rebuilt by a carb shop.
