hesitation on takeoff

hey guy's my 79 175 starts great i warm it up no misses had a bad switch box last weekend replaced it , problem when i put it in gear it doesent stall but as i throttle up it wants to die off ,when i hit it hard. if i just give it to her nice and easy she takes of and away we go , have to check plugs again today after a run, bought [or stole] a complete motor for a spare, got it for a hundred bucks.any ideas on what to check next thanks

You might want to try opening the idle mixture screws a bit to see if it will take off then.

i tried it yesterday and if i hit the choke as i give it the gas away we go and no other issues, does this motor have some kind of accelerator pump thanks,it will sit and idle all day long

What you describe is a classic symptom of running too lean. As Cogburn mentioned, turn each of the idle mixture screws (on the carbs) out 1/4 turn (CCW) and try it again. If no difference, try another 1/4 turn out.
