Hi,
I have a 1993 yamaha stern drive YEMS, 4.3 liter engine, 180 horsepower. When i give it full throttle suddenly (floor it), it boggs down at about 4,000rpm before it kicks in. The engine runs fine until i go to floor it. Can you tell me what this might be?

Thanks,
Santo

Re: Hesitation

The carb is Lean at acceleration... Look to the accelerator pump 1st....

Re: Hesitation

yes, accelerator pump, I must be the expert on this subject.

To test the accelerator pump to see if it is working or not:

WHILE THE ENGINE IS OFF!!1

Take the spark arrestor off the carb and have somebody pump the shifter and should should see it squirt gas into the carb. If it squirts once and is not squirting everytime it is pumped, it is the accelerator pump.

Note: if only after the first few times of pumping it is squirting OK, then it isn't. If you pump it like 5 or more times and it stops squirting after that its because the float bowl is empty.
