Thank You to all who take time from their personal life to help members out,
My 1st Force outboard 85hp ‘87’
I think it’s over propped 13/17 is getting 4500rpm@27mph Wot.17ft Bayliner bass. I assume previous owner should have dropped pitch as it’s a SS prop. But Do these take the type where you change the hub,or can you use a prop with a removable hub and wich kit will
I need,as far as the pressed hub type as long as the splines add up will it work even if it’s offs Mercury Yamaha etc. I ask as I never had 1 that wasn’t thru hub exhaust and I can’t tell by sellers pics if it’s through hub or not, most outboards aren’t is there a way to look at a prop and by the shape of the inside hub area be able to tell or does that not matter as long as splines add up. I have a flo torque hub kit off my last Mercruiser Alpha 1 in my toolbox.Btw If anybody has 1 for sale SS lmk.
sorry My post is long for a simple prop question but I’m buying used,no returns and I wana get it right

Thanks Again for anyone’s guidance

I have seen the same props on dual exhaust and thru hub prop engines. The dual I have seen with a conic extender on the hub. 15 spline 13+" props fit. Some props have pressed in hubs and others have removable hubs. Removable hubs are pretty much manufacturer specific so you have to be careful there. Somebody was on here a couple of weeks ago looking for a Force prop and was having problems. I don't know how that worked out.

On pitch, If you are running at the top end of your recommended RPM range at WOT and normal load you are ok. If at the bottom ,drop pitch about 150-200 RPM gain per inch drop.

Appreciate the info, many thanks for replying.
Yes I’m looking at both type of props pressed and removable hubs. I assume any 15 spline will work based on your info, I had that hunch but better to ask 1st. Also if I can find a 15 spline removable hub maybe that will work as you said for that specific prop like a merc etc. To be safe I think I’ll stick with a pressed 15 spline as force has no hubs on market

Also on my Rpms reading yes I’m only getting 4500@27mph wot. So I’m down about 1,000 Rpms. Gonna move the outboard lock up a notch ‘No trim’ on my motor someone I guess had removed it prior I now only have tilt. I’ll see if I can get better numbers and start dropping down pitch until I can hit or get really close to 5500. I’m thinking if I’m hitting 27mph at 4500 I should be able to achieve 30 at 5500. Maybe 13/15 but if I have to go lower I’m gonna be in the range of 12 diameter as I’ve never seen a 13/13 13/11 prop. Some guys have even suggested going to a 12 diameter but i don’t think so for a 85hp that Is used in rough water Lake Michigan. Im not sure how it will end up being im missing a whole 1,000k. I’d need to go down atleast 2-3 pitches to get that back. The mistake I think was previous owner slapped a SS prop on it but didn’t go down in pitch he stayed at 13/17 but he was using it in a small calm lake and speed wasn't his concern but I have enough knowledge to know it’s not good to have a pitch that can’t achieve max Wot especially 1 that is lugging at 4500…

Hub is unique to the installation in a given prop diameter range. The difference is the number of teeth on the spline. Somewhere is a standard that specifies the barrel dimension on a certain range diameters...like 13-14" diameter use a 4 1/4 housing so the prop barrel (to which the blades are attached) has to fit in that dimension. Length is setup by the thrust washer which is unique to the prop model, mfgr. and hub type. Locking devices for the prop nut are mfgr. (of the engine) unique....so kits are sometimes sold with the prop, prop and insertable hub, and an installation kit of the thrust washer sitting in front of the prop and the rear locking mechanisms and washers of any. When you shop iboats props, the installation kit is right there with hub if removable.
