Re: Hey JB How about your friends son???

Charles is back in the USA in rehab at Shepherd AFB to be near his family. He has been told that he will recover sufficiently to have the option of remaining in the USAF Special Forces, but not in a combat capacity.

Though his Mom told me he has been advised to stand by for orders to report to The White House it seems that the wheels of military bureaucracy turn slowly, and that the bureaucracy of the Congress may also be involved. He clearly has nomination(s) in the works.

Silver Stars usually take up to a year to get approved, CMOH can take many years and I know of only two cases in the last 100 years (Dolittle and MacArthur) that took less than a year. Those two, of course, were highest of profile cases. Some would say they were political awards.

If what Charles' Mom has told me is accurate I think he clearly deserves a Silver Star and consideration for the CMOH.

Here is the history for those who don't have the whole story.: http://forums.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=20;t=012544#000000

Re: Hey JB How about your friends son???

Hi JB, I missed the original post but it sounds like a great young man is going to be honoured properly by his country. Be sure he is aware that we send our best wishes to him for a speedy recovery.

Don't know whether this made the news in the US but one of our young lads was awarded our highest honour for his actions in the Gulf (the Victoria Cross). Full story here

Ps JB, I tried clicking on the second link (ie the link in your first update to the original post) but keep getting the message "no such topic number exists". Is it just a glitch at my end?

Superb JB, thanks for filling us in on the details and the updates. Charles has a great deal of courage to respond the way he did. We wish him a speedy recovery and return to unit.
