Same here but there is an out. I sold a vehicle one time and the new owner wouldn't register it. I called the DMV and explained the situation. They told me to send them a copy of the bill of sale and my statement that it had been sold. That would end my ownership as far as they were concerned.

If you have proof that it was sold, that proof should stand up in court. At that point, the DMV is just another opinion for the judge to take into account. They may think their silly rules are chiseled in stone, but a judge might have another opinion.
You see it started out as a 3 day loan, yes she paid for it only because at the closing I produced a bill for her and made her pay me all she owed before I would sign, no bill of sale. Hel$ she did not hang around long enuf for me to finish all of the paperwork. As soon as they handed her the check for her part she got up and left saying nothing on the way out!

I am not sure that the truck was even sold. Is there a bill of sale?

Sounds more like an exchange of monies. Until the title is transferred you still retain ownership, and are therefore responsible. The paper dictates who owns it, not whether your ex gave you (X) dollars, regardless of intent.

I am not a lawyer, and that is who you should be asking. Think of the damage and liability you have with a 2 ton wrecking machine running around in your/your son's name. I wouldn't have my butt this far out there. Especially with the story you are now telling. I lose my keys once a week, I never lost a car or truck, .......................well................... ever! And I can't imagine you have either.

When things don't line up, there is usually something fishy going on. What was her reaction to you telling her you have reported it stolen?

nope, no bill of sale, that requires contact and she is in hiding, no phone number. no address, no call after the three days of the loan. And yes I did go looking for it, went to her job and drove throught the parking lot. I even left a leter at the office where someone told me she was living. I think I have done all I can to find it, it may never show up.

Just a thought here, I think she was out showing it off, opening the hood to show off the edlebrock carb and intake, the high flow exhaust etc. And the wrong person say it and took it, I suspect it is in parts all over.

probably should not have posted the "stories" she told me and the kids:rolleyes:
