Do the actual posters have to request it or can we nominate them? These have to get in there:

stevewolverton's '61 Larson
Tail_Gunner's Wellcraft
lundnisswa's Lund
contractorguy's swim platform

Thanks guys! I think the completed projects forum will be a great resource and prevent some of these inspiring and informational projects from getting lost.

We haven't set any special criteria, because projects vary a lot, but these are important:

It should be a DIY How-to of a completed project, with good pix and explanation.

It doesn't need to be great literature, but it should be correctly composed, spelled, punctuated and capitalized. While a thread eventually drifts off into the archives, a posted completed project will be on display more or less permanently, so make it an outstanding example.

Are there any good ones about painting outboards. I have a thread somewhere from when I restored my 62 fisherman, but I am sure there must be some goods ones out there.

I would like to submit this......

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?p=803311#post803311

This was exclusively done with the help of people here. I completely understand if it isn't factual enough for the Completed Projects section. I know there are plently of people out there who are wanting to repaint a motor properly.

Please read above quote.
The forum is for completed boat projects, not engine projects, not swim platform projects, completed boat projects.
Go read DJ's BW project thread.
That is a good example of what we want.
Complete, precise, and to the point.
When done and we deem it good enough for the forum, we will copy it there and remove all of the "looks good" etc replies and lock it for all to be able to see just the project without having to go through all of the replies.
Thanks and keep restoring.

I have to respectfully disagree. If we're going by what JB described it as "It should be a DIY How-to of a completed project, with good pix and explanation." These other suggestions would fit the bill. I think by Completed "Boat" Projects it was meant boat-related projects as opposed to painting your house. Not that only whole boat restoration could go in there. I think it would be an invaluable resource with all boat related completed how-to projects included.

Well the link that I included above is of a complete restoration from shell of a boat to completely restored and back on the water where it belongs. I could've been a little more descriptive but in the end I think it went very well compared to where I started.

Patience, please. We started this without clear criteria. We are discussing guidelines now.

If you want a model example thread, look at DJ's thread on his Boston Whaler.

Thats Fine SBN, I didn't look at the actual name of the forum since in JBs response it literally said "It should be a DIY How-to of a completed project, with good pix and explanation." If I had seen boat in that I wouldn't have even suggested that thread.

My only two cents is that often restoring a boat involves restoring an engine. Given the fact that iboats sells parts to do that, it only makes sense to explain how it is done and show examples. I saw it as "boat related".

Its not going to hurt my feelings any. I just wanted to get it out there since I occasionally get emails and PMs about that motor and the alumacraft removeable floor. Just trying to help with whatever limited knowlege I may have.

Yeah, I should have said "boat" project. My Bad.

Some of these are going to get turned down. Not necessarily because they weren't good projects but because the presentation (explanation and illustration) may not up to what we want.

Please don't apply with your ego on trial.

No doubt JB....you guys run the site and do a fine job of it.

The patience is much appreciated.

Re: Hey mods, what has to happen to get projects into the Completed Projects archive?

I think that compleated boat projects, should mean completed boat projects. I didnt realize it completed boat projects ment completly restoring a entire boat. I thought it ment completed boat projects. My bad for thinking that what it is called ment what was behind the link. If so think that it should be renamed. I would like to see decent completed projects in there that dont have to be the whole boat. A lot of people search for projects to do on their boats so why cant say, a swim ladder custom build, or a hard top build that is complete and tastefully dont be in there?

Something like a "completed transom replacement on an aluminum boat" would be infinitely useful but would not qualify as a total restore.
