EVERYONE who buys a boat should go to this site before going out in the boat, and take the course. Sure,it's Florida, but boats in Florida operate much the same as those in the great White North (eh). http://www.boatsafe.com/Florida/

For the owners of trailered boats, practice boat ramp courtsy.. Untie your transon straps, hook up your battery + fuel tank, load your boat gear, instruct the people in your boat, ect.,ect. In the parking lot BEFORE backing the boat down the ramp. You will make all around the ramp so happy and start your and their day on the water right. Also BEFORE you push the boat off the trailer make sure the enginge cranks (it is embarassing to unload and it not fire and have to push/swim the boat back on the trailer).

And the reverse, too. Pull your boat away from the ramp to the parking lot to retie the transom ties, etc, if there are people waiting.

spend a morning or evening on a boat ramp. just to observe people. you can sure learn a lot about what not to do. and its some of the best entertainment you can get for free.

Bring a cell phone with you - even brand new boats can break down or lose a shear pin in the prop. Let someone on shore know where your going and when to expect you back.

Waves to ya ! Question All? I'm finishing a 26 foot Thompson, Hopefully ready to go into a slip in St. Mary's Georgia in a few more weeks. I know running in salt water the engine should be flushed with fresh water. I have a 350 I/O stern drive. Is there a way to flush the engine if shes in the water? Put the ears on the foot and flush? Bump and a JB quote:<br />"If you have a problem and post it on this board someone is going to save you hundreds of dollars.<br />It is a simple courtesy to report back to us the results of our advice. If you don't you are cheating the helpers out of their pay."<br /><br />So please report back when the problems are solved. Save your post under "Bookmarks" or "Favorites" so you don't loose it in the heavy traffic. :) <br /><br />Thank you!<br /><br />Bear
