You PM box is at Max and can't get a PM sent...
you need this latest info..
I went out and checked the set-up for a more accurate description & see that due to the feed into the top carb from the fuel pump that includes the secondary feed to the middle & bottom carb "loop" (that has a secondary fuel feed from the lower fuel pump) that a 90 degree 1/8" NPT male x 1/8" NPT male is required at the top carb with a Tee that is female-female-female 1/8" NPT threaded onto the 90 and then (2) 1/8" NPT male x 5/16 push-on fittings threaded into the Tee.
Then a straight 1/8" NPT male x 5/16 push-on threaded into the top fuel pump.
Hope this infor isn't too late.

Re: Hey OldMercsRule!!...

Hey Scaaty, The top gas line out of both my 1969 1000(s) and my 1968 1250 and my 1971 1150, (all silver blocks) all have the exact same line that is different from all the other fuel lines to the other carbs or the external line feed to the first of the two fuel pumps on those vintage motors. The top of the (top) fuel pump to the (top) carb has the same fitting as all the rest coming out of the fuel pump side: (a 5/16 brass barb that a 7/16 wrench fits the end that screws into the pump body). There is a 90 degree fitting to point towards the fuel pump on the top carb filter housing, (which is behind the starter), and a brass crimped on fitting from the 5/16 fuel hose from the top fuel pump that has a brass nut as part of the fitting that a 5/8 wrench fits that attaches to the 90 degree elbow in the top of the filter housing of the top carb with pipe threads. If your 1350 is a silver block, I bet it is the same set up. All the other old factory lines have the 5/16 barbs and would be easy to fix. The 90 degree fitting which attaches to the crimped fitting on the end of the hose is what is messing me up on this line. Most of the brass at the places I listed have either the wrong threads or the wrong size barb (1/4 or 3/8). I plan to google what yer Guru told me to see if I can locate brass fuel fittings in town, as that line seems to be the weakest on those motors at that location so I need to acquire parts for all of 'em to fix if or when they lay down on me. (I need to fix the one 1000 now). Thanks for the help. I will touch base soon if I need more. JR

Re: Hey OldMercsRule!!...

I can give you his phone number, and a time to call during the week if ya want, and he might be able to set ya up with the original parts. My beast is all covered up at the moment (using my 20 footer), but I might go take a look at it today...stay in touch here...we will get if figured

Re: Hey OldMercsRule!!...

Hey Scaaty,

I found the brass fittings on line, but no local outfits in the Seattle area that stock the stuff, (at least on line or in the phone book that I could find this weekend).

If I get an origional gas line, (one of my running motors has a good line on it now), it will lay down at some point when they, (big brother) shove acohol down our throats here in God's Country, (only a matter of time, IMHO). (This particular line is the weak spot in the whole gas line loop, on the vintage engines you and I run, [as I'm sure you know]). I may still have a shot for a good origional on one of my remaining parts motors that I will visit this Monday as well.

I have decided to order the entire selection of 5/16 "Rigid Female Adapters" as I can't tell for absolute sure which one would fit. You as a machinist may be able to make a better guess then me. Site: fittingsandmore; under: hose barb; click on Female Adapter; there are four 5/16 fittings, my guess is the: 32-056 @ $1.90 each before shipping. The size of the brass nut that attaches to the 90 degree elbow out of the filter on the top carb is 5/8, hence the reason for that guess.

Ya think I'm right? If so I could just order a few of those girls, (fer spares when your line fails or my other line fails), so it is easy to R and R next time. JR

Re: Hey OldMercsRule!!...

I'll have to check this out today on the motor, and I'll check the site...more later
PS. Ill take a pic too, but mine has new pump diaphrams (watch when ordering..ones recieved originally DID NOT match, but same part number...I can get more info here on it later), and the whole loop system has brand new lines/fits

Wow, then yer guru knows which "Rigid female Adapter" fitting I need, (although he could have totaly changed that particular weak setup on the top carb to a single 90 degree with a 5/16 barb), which I was also tempted to try if I could of found that particular fitting, (which I also found online). Thanks for the help!!!! JR

Re: Hey OldMercsRule!!...

Wrong on 056..get 055 1/8th NPT. Check the O.D on what ya got. 1/8th NPT male threads is about 3/8th OD on the threads. 1/4 is more like 1/2 inch.

Yup, That's why I told ya: I know I owe ya. I always hang onto valuable parts fer me old inlines. N' since you luv some of the same things I do, and we live within 100 miles of each other, I will cover ya if ya need something, and I happen to have it.

It never used to be sooooo hard finding brass fittings in the old days, but many of those parts places have died due to online places, (where ya can't go in and kick the tires with the old part and make sure it will work before ya order or in the old days: buy it).

The 5/16 stuff is 'oddball' and most places now have only 1/4 or 3/8 in the brass, (even McClindens' hardware [sp]). Talk to ya Tuesday. JR BTW: I kept my old two blade aluminum prop fer the 1250, which has the through exhaust. If that stainless wheel does not turn just what ya want you can have mine, 'cause I doubt I will ever run a two blade again, (unless I come across another Carlson "pocket rocket" as me and my buds used to call my old sling shot). That 1250 ss on that Carlson would have given you a run fer yer money even if ya have 10 more horsies!!

Re: Hey OldMercsRule!!...

Got yer PM and post here. If yer fairly confident that would fit I could risk a few 32-055 at $2.34. Even if I have a good origional line up at the lake, (which I doubt), I want some of the proper brass on hand, 'cause this is the weak part of the whole fuel loop on the silver blocks!!! You are the machinist after all!!!!! Think I should order today??? JR

Re: Hey OldMercsRule!!...

Yep, NPT (National Pipe Tap) is a weird animal on size when you look at them. Pipe goes by the inside hole diameter, not the outside thread size, like bolts

And ya mean 5/16th for hose? Is that what the size is? Yeah, seems hard to find. I have a Carquest by me that has that size hose, and 3/16ths too (old Hondas)

Re: Hey OldMercsRule!!...

Yup, 5/16 is the proper gas line size fer those old girls. The "barb" must be 5/16 that slips inside the gas line. The end that screws onto the elbow out of the filter housing on the top carb fits a pipe threaded brass nut that a 5/8 " wrench fits on the outside, (the actual nut part). That is why I guessed 32-056 which shows .62, (5/8)!! Which I have in me pocket in case I stumble across some brass fittings to look at. That is why this is soooooo cornfusing to a retired stock broker. JR

Re: Hey OldMercsRule!!...

Bumping this to say I will start a new thread with pix, part numbers, the whole who, what, and where.......What I came up with that you need will be in the mail Monday..and it will have the address to send off the 2 blade Alum prop when ya get to it..no rush. ...thats might be a classic..and MIGHT do the old Flatbottom good...need about a 21 inch plus pitch...have 13/19-3BSS (ROCKET), 13/25Alum-3bAlum (speed, boring...hole punch so-so), 13/24 @BBronze (not mine..borrowed, not tried yet), and the 12x24 cupped 2BSS
Thing is here in the Sound, ya slap a hunk of wood at 60mph, with a SS, theres goes the LU. have to try the Alum of yours...owe ya for the offer..Thanks Jim..M/L
