My understanding is that you are in the timber business. I am looking for some lumber, but a specific type. Maybe you, or you know someone that can help me out. I have searched the web tirelessly, but with no luck. I am looking for a piece of wood that has nasty burly knarly figure in it, to make custom gunstocks out of.

Nate, I am not PW2 But I do know the nicest stocks come from the roots of walnut, I have a freind that use to make stocks and got his wood from regular stock makers (Fagen and etc.) it was expencive but was properly seasoned and that is a long process in it's self

Say, Nate.

I've got some great mesquite over here, just a few miles away. Makes great stocks, but you have to harvest, cut and dry it before you can use it. The "waste" makes great firewood and/or smoking chips.

Re: Hey PW2

While walnut makes a beautiful stock, everybody uses walnut. Im looking for something special. Something that no one uses or that has used.

Hi Nate. Take a look at what some of the very high end pool cues use for wood. Some manufacturers are Schon, Joss, Richard Black, Scruggs, Southwest are a few. Might give you some ideas for different woods anyway.

A few I know of are tulipwood, cocobolo, rosewood, purpelheart, zebrawood, and paduak come to mind quickly.

Just found this website. Thay have an extensive list of exotic woods for sale. Has pics too! Click on the "wood products" tab near the top of the page, then click exotics on the left.

Re: Hey PW2

I don't get involved with exotic species at all, but there has to be on the web some resources. I had a guitar made out of Brazilian Rosewood. There are all sorts of African hardwoods out there, and here in Northern Ontario we have Birdseye Maple and curly maple.

Good Luck
