Hey Sylvan Owners, question about depth alarm

Last season, I had no issues. But for some reason, my high or low alarm continues to activate whenever at speed and the depth finder quits working. I know how to set the high and low-level alam, but I don't know how to get this thing from going into alarm everytime it can't get a reading.

....try resetting by disconnecting the unit from the battery for 30 seconds. Also, try contacting the manufacturer for advise. Maybe clean off your emitter under the boat, sometimes scum may affect performance. Make sure you got good connections all around to include cleaning the contacts that go into the unit head. There should not be any green corrosion on the contacts to include the contact holes. Sometimes it is really hard to clean those holes, so my last resort is to use TarnX followed by a shot of contact cleaner to get the acid out.....wear safety goggles to prevent acid from going into eyes. Wear safety goggles to prevent acid from going into eyes (Oh, did I already say that?).

If I go to fast my Depth sounder will not pick up the depth and if you have the alarm set for shallow depth then it will go off, as it's supposed to.

Is this your possible problem?

Yep....but it continues to go off regardless as to where the depth is set or even if I set it at zero. Never happened last season.

Did you clean the pick up under the boat?

Mine's doing the same thing this year. You can turn it off by holding down the up and down buttons until it says off if it gets really annoying and you know you in deep water. Pressing the up or down button will turn it back on. I suspect a loose wire is my problem because it makes the same sounds it does when it's first powered up.

Hummmm, thought I was the only one (works great at slower speeds - quits working at higher speeds). My depth finder transducer mounted flush with the bottom of the toon (previous toons). The new toons Sylvan installed this winter have the mount a little higher, about 1/2 inch above the bottom of the toon.

Since we've all had toons replaced this winter, and we all have the same problem; suggest you look at the transducer mount position.

Thoughts?

Sometimes it's just adjusting the transducer--moving it down a little.

And there are some electronic adjustments that can often be made--setting the gain a little higher.

My Garmin depth/fish finder also quits reading when I'm up at speed.

Re: Hey Sylvan Owners, question about depth alarm

I noticed the mount on the port tune is quite a bit closer to the water than the starboard. Not sure how long the transducer cable is but, it appears that is my only option (if the cable is long enough to re-route).

I've attached photos showing how far the transducer is from the bottom of the tune (or the angled surface). Depth transducers will not work unless they are in the water.

I could have sworn there were two mounts on the previous toon, anyone else have any suggestions?
