hf antenna for amateur radio.

I want to use a Hustler 40 meter, 7,000Mhz to 7,250Mhz, mobile antenna on my cabin boat.Has any body done this before and if so what type of a counterpoise was used if any, my cabin boat is constructed of wood and grp,I use a hand held for vhf and a shakspeare antenna for 29Mhzmarine frequencies.

Try posing the question at eham.com.<br />You will need a grounding system of some kind. <br />And, I would strongly suggest an automatic tuner. The hustler antenna is a good one, however, like any antenna shortened from 33' to 6 ', it will have a very narrow bandwidth.<br />question: what is a 29 MHz marine band?<br />Captharv

40 meter? Do you mean 4 meter? Do you want to use the antenna on the ham band or for marine VHF? You canot effectively use that antenna for marine band. The VSWR will be very high and the effective radiated power very low. You'll probably damage the radio. Same thing is true if you use it on the ham band without a ground plane.

the 29 Mhz marine band is a range of frequencies used here in south africa for coms between shore and boats as well as emergency services marine coms.<br />the chanels we use are.29.9350 main calling 29.7725 and 29.9725 these channels are used both inland as well as along the coast here in South Africa.<br />I want to opperate within the forty meter amateur band while maritine mobile.7.000 mhz to 7.1000 mhz LSB this antenna is designed to work within the amateur bands ,the problem is the ground plane to use.
