Just wanted to say Hi all, and I have been doing a strip down on her I just got to cutting the frist of the 3 stringers out of her !! I will post some pics here soon!! This is my frist time redoing a boat , I think I have some good Ideas of what i am going to do , get these stringers out then its rebuild time !!! yeehaaa I allready have the back braces out of her , thought i was going to have to replace the trans, but the wood back there was n perrty good shape !!!! So once i get the last of the stringers out today !!! I will get them back in , then the braces in , then reglass it all in , then the floor , I was thinking of the frist layer drill holes in to it, laying it glass it, then using the pour foam , then laying the second floor over it , has anyone ever had any problem doing this ??? I was also thinking of glassing some smaller pieces of wood on the back trans, where there was none !!! and the back braces to the trans what about making them bigger to where they fit right up to the top half of the boat and then glass them in , kind of a U shaped brace, the reason i want to hook up a ski pylon to her , I know it will be some extra weight that is why the pour foam , the foam will add 960 lbs of dead lift to her if i can get all 4 gallons in to her , it makes 16 cubic feet of foam !!! Ohh yea Along the center stringer i want to cut some pvc pipe in half the long way and and glass that in next to the center stringer, when i tore the deck out there must of been two inchs of water in her and the foam peices were all water logged!! must have taken out 500 lbs out of her!!!!! they didnt have drainage to the back ?????? Well I have rattled on here long enough!! just wanted to say Hi and if anyone has any Ideas Let me know !!!!!! thanks John

if the stringers are that bad, i would take a second look at the transom. if your going this far you may want to replace the transom as well. if it isn't rotten or there are no cracks anywhere in the transom then your very lucky. keep up informed on how the build is going.

Re: HI all T166 glastron 1977 restore

yea tallcanagain, I was really surpised that it [the trans} was in as good as shape as it was !!! there is on corner that is a little soft, and by that i cant push the head of a thin screw drive to where the flat ends !!!! so i am going to galvit it and then glass over it after i replace the braces and they werent that bad , it just in the one cornerwhere they didnt have it all glassed in , and the spot is the size of a baseball if that big !!! the reason that i think the stringers are that bad is that they didnt have then fully glassed in and there was no drainage to the back , there was and im not kidding two inchs of water and the foam blocks were all water logged !!! So what do you think is that spot that much to worry about ???? john
