Re: hi everyone

Hi tabs,

Welcome to iBoats and you come from afar, maybe the longest yet. :D

So you want to fish but what size are you interested in? powered or not? There is a list of common questions running around here and I am sure someone will post for you to give you an idea. So, in a nutshell, I think we need a little more info from you on what you may be interested in and you budget.

Re: hi everyone

welcome aboard. there are no stupid question on this site. our objective, is fun, safe boating, and proper maintenance, plus learning from others mistakes.

Buying a boat

1st you need to decide what you want to use it for, fishing, cruising, or water sports.

2nd how many people adults, children you want on board of the average outing.

3rd outboard, inboard-outboard, or inboard power plant.

4th Budget, what you want to pay, and what you are willing to pay, when you find
Exactly what you want.

You can hire a marine surveyor, to inspect the boat, or you can do it yourself.

You are mainly looking for soft spots in the deck, transom, cracks, all signs of a rotten, under frame. You walk all over the deck, that a mallot, or hammer with wooden handle, using handle, tap all over the transom, a shape rap is good solid base, a thud, is questionable base.

The motor should be clean, no spots where the paint is discolored, or pealing from heat, having run hot. (This part for outboard motors Compression should be atleast 100psi, and within 10% of each other,)
Spark on all cylinders, good pee stream, check lower unit for water in oil.

The overall condition of the boat will tell you a lot, as to how it has been maintained.
boat motor combo, A 30 year old may be in better condition, than a 3 year old.

Re: hi everyone

Tabs, welcome.

This forum community is here to help you in any way it can. But you must help yourself out.... begin by reading the thread that Fratalia mentioned and a few of the 'stickies' posted in the other categories in this forum. Those are general answers to the topic threads located at the top of each section.

Then, start combing through some of the threads and read the ones that pertain to you.. you may want to search for "new boat owner" or "want to buy a boat"... You'll have plenty of questions after that, I'm sure.

Good luck!

Re: hi everyone

if your looking for mainly fishing.. go with a center console.. alota people have them on her. i do not so i dont know much bout them.. but i know that because the steering gauges and all the things you need are in the center you have alot room to move around the boat..others will tell you more about them

Hi Tabs and Welcome.

I do not have the opportunity to write to someone from your part of world. What is boating like there. I believe that is all Indian Ocean along the coast. I haven't a clue how rough or calm that is.
