Hi from first time boat owner w/pics

Just wanted to say HI and thanks for the awesome forum. I have been browsing this site for information as my wife and I shopped for boats. This is a cool place with lots of knowledgeable and friendly people.

We finally decided to buy a 1991 Sunbird Corsair 198 cuddy for just under $3800. We probably paid too much, but we just couldn't find a decent boat in this price range in our area. They were all junk! This seemed like a good first boat for us.

This boat and trailer are very clean, and the outdrive was rebuilt in 2006 w/receipts. It has the 4.3 OMC Cobra. Runs great but needs a few things like some of the gauges don't work. I don't think the bilge pump works, we hear buzzing, but no water pumps out the sides (yet a few gallons pour out the drain plug hole after a day on the lake).

Anyway, thanks again for the informative site. BTW, we are in central IL.

Boat looks great , and that sounds cheap price to me ,you couldnt buy a dinghy for that here ..

I hear your pain regarding the prices for boats there, but if it makes you feel better, I saw a pricing post from a member of this forum in South Africa, and the price for a dingy where you are wouldn't buy a fuel filter there. WOW!!

Welcome to iboats.

Visit our electronics section http://forums.iboats.com/forumdisplay.php?f=23 , go to radio shack and get a cheap meter and start hunting down wires. With any used boat it is impossible to diagnose an electrical problem via the internet.

My very very first check would be fuses, circuit breakers and the wire connections themselves.

It's a frustrating hunt for most but worth it.

9K for a 1991 19 footer w/ 4.3 OMC?? Maybe that's why I was seeing so much junk in our price range. I should trailer it out to Cali with a signed title for a quick profit, LOL!

Welcome.. Thats is a very nice looking boat you'll really appreciate the cuddy on the cooler days in spring and fall.
Put a 6x or something under the jack post and crank your bow up high as you can get it, dry out the bilge really good, get a small mop or rag on a stick. You need to verify where the water in your bilge is comming in, you should be able to boat all day and it remain dry unless you have swimmers dripping wet climbing in and out.

just to add, when checking fuses/connections clean any corrosion. Boats tend to be floating corrosion pits.
