hi everyone great website with a ton of info. i couldn't sleep the other day and got on craigslist and saw a add for a starcraft so i text the guy and he sends me a text of the boat, says he will be home at 6 from work. so i show up at 5:30 and start to wheel and deal. well 250.00 bucks latter i got this 16 footer.

now the transom, i am thinking i might as well redo it

any suggestions on how to get her out?
what to replace with?

was planning on putting in a aluminium floor, i just don't want to put wood back in is anyone using anything different for your flooring?
what gauge would you use for flooring? i plan on adding some support and blue foam under the floor sinse it didn't have any foam in it.

250 bux, sweet!! Welcome to iboats and the ever growing group of Starcraft weirdos!

For your transom, pull off the OB. Then take every fastener, draintube and whatever else off. Then remove your transom end caps and trim. Then get it out. Lots of creative ways to get it out, they are usually pretty stubborn. You can click on the Jet Star link in my signature to see how I got mine out.

Exterior grade, Arauco, or marine grade plywood are all great options after being sealed up with epoxy and/or paint.

Flotation, great move! I see you have two little fishermen with you there.

Click on the "Starcraft Rebuilds and Restorations" and you'll pretty much have all the info you need to get this boat back on the water

thanks for the links everytime i see one i get ideas lol. veilside180sx link showed me alot especially the front deck and storage, very nice. seems like all the star crafts had a splash well, as you can see mine is missing it anyone have pics of them? thanks guys

Welcome to the forum and to the Starmada. Nice hull for $250. It will be interesting to see how you put it back together since you've got a blank slate to work with.

anyone know how much Gluvit one should order to do a 16 footer?

you guys think the 1 quart kit will do for the transom? this is my first boat and i will have a ton of questions lol
i took off all the hardware today, wish i had a place to hook up a hose around this place! to wash it all out, time to dig out the buckets!

Nice score, that will be a good project for ya

The 1lb Gluvit kit will leave you some extra for a canoe or smaller boat, unless you really glob it on. I did the entire interior of my 16' SS and also my 12' AeroCraft with one can.

You might want to go ahead and order 1-2 gallons or epoxy resin now since you'll probably want to seal the deck as well.

hey guys i borrowed a pressure washer last night and am going to hit it today. funny how all the wasps are attracted to the warm hall, need to get a couple more cans of wasp spray lol. epoxy and gluvit ordered and some 5200. couple questions?

as you can see in the photos the previous owner rivited diamond plate pieces to the top rail of the boat, looks like heck, how hard is it to paint diamond plate? was thinking of doing a liner type to it. by the way this will be a fishing \ duck hunting rig so it is going to be a nice flat color.

got a trailor place that can cut the floor to size out of one piece of aluminum or should i go with sections?

well had alittle time this morning so i drilled out some rivets

this is the side that was missing the end cap!

removed rivets in trim piece and took off a section of diamond plate, now i know why they put it on lol holes ever where!

i am thinking if i cut about a inch off the outside trim i should be able to bend the top sheet up to get transom out. now i have to make a stand to hold the engine so i can get that transom out.

Holes are fixable Andy, if you aren't fond of that diamond plate. Rivets and/or JB weld with some new paint can have that gunwale looking good.

I just cut off the little bit that was in the way. It will be hidden by the caps anyway.

allright got home from class and the kids where still with grandma, so i figured the transom was the next job. took out all the nails on the top trim piece.

then took out all the bolts

then started on the drain plugs, i figured this is how you guys get them out!

this is everything that was holding it on plus one drain plug!

i cut off that little tab on the outside trim.

then bent up the metal

the transom was three pieces, not sure if this is how they did them in the factory , if so this is the original one lol.
little wings one the side where just loose in their.

will have to try and get that out tommarow.

On the floor,..

I guess it depends on if you will ever need to get under it again,...

I would probably put it in in sections to be able to make any unplanned future repairs easier,...
