hello i was recently given a 1954 johnson 3hp seaking from my neighbor that bought it new. i got it running but doesnt run right so its time for a carb rebuild to start. im not having much luck finding the correct kit for it. it has 302985 on float bowl but i imagine thats the bowl part number. float looks kinda rough but still floats. also id like to find a new impeller for it. thanks for any and all help guys.ill get some pics when its back together. its kind of funny he had the original receipt and owners manual.

Seahorse, unclebeaner, not sea king. Some of us JohnnyRude fans are sensitive about that. :)

Wonderful little engine. I don't think anyone ever made a better one.

Tashasdaddy should be along soon and direct you to your kit.

I had a OMC float # of 396514, available at Laing's outboard
Hint: if it's a 4 digit part # at Laing's then it is a Sierra part number minus the leading "18-", so Laing's 3001 impeller is really a Sierra 18-3001. The 6 digit PN's are usually the original Evinrude PN.

I use iboats, since they are kind enough to foot the bill for this forum, are cheaper than most, and their service is flawless.

OEM parts are available at http://shop.evinrude.com
THe 3 hp was virtually unchanged during it's entire run, so the 1968 model is 95% the same as your 1954

Don't forget eBay. Parts are there all of the time.

If you go with the OMC kit a new float will be part of the kit. Not sure if this happens always but it has been my experience. Rick.

When you install your new points be sure to put a dab of high temp grease behind the rubbing block of the points. That is the part that actually contacts the cam. That way as the points wear it keeps the rubbing block and cam lubricated. This step is often forgotten but is quite helpful. Also, many condensers are replaced routinely with the points. The condenser is there to prevent arcing at the points which results in a "fang" on one side of the points. If the points have no fang I reuse the condenser
