Re: hifive

depends on your application, cwilt. What type of boat and engine do you have?

They are great props for holeshot, skiing, and carrying heavy loads.

Re: hifive

Probably not the prop for top end, but they are very stable. Usually three blades will give you the best top end, but more blades usually will give you a better holeshot.

I would see if you have any prop dealers near you who are willing to let you try some different props before you buy one. Many will do that if you buy a prop from them.

What prop are you running now (brand, diameter, and pitch)? What arer your RPM's at WOT? How fast does your current set up push you along? And was this measured by speedometer or GPS?

Also, what model bass boat? Is it a pad bottom type? Do you have a jack plate?

Re: hifive

Well, all the imformation here is true, and we do need some more information, but Ill tell ya what I have.

I am currently running a 25P High Five on my 18' Bass boat with a merc 150. Now, why? Well, I really like the hole shot, and with all the gear and a fishing partner, it jumps out of the hole like a rocket. I also have the "Smart Tabs" which allows me to have a better hole shot and keep the boat on plane at 15 MPH or even less if I want to. I lost about 3 MPH over the fastest prop I have ever used, but I think I could gain 5 MPH with the right prop for speed. If I were fishing tournaments in a very large impoundment, I might use a different prop, but in the small lakes I fish the hole shot is where its at. No kidding, I can be about 100 yard down the lake before some boats can get up on plane. Not to mention, if I want to show off, (And who dosent once in awhile), I can throw a roostertail you wouldnt believe, and thats important. :p :p

I give a "HIGH FIVE" To the High Five. :D :D :D

Re: hifive

I have a high five on my 22' bowrider. It replaced the three blade the boat came with and I have been more than happy. I lost 3-4 mph on the top but I gained a huge amount of acceleration and pulling ability. My friend has a 19' Regal with a 5.0 mpi, my boat has a 5.7 with a four barrel. I can leave him sitting and still outrun him on the top end.

Re: hifive

I bought lubedudes 23 pitch high five for my glastron. I love the holeshot, It will pull three people out with my V-6 but lost 4 mph on top end. I have tried all sorts on my boat and found the lazer II the fastest. I also tried a mirage plus and tempest plus and found with those 2 that I could stay on plane at slower speeds and trim up to the point I was starting to get a little out of control. It was fun for me to try all the props out but now I have 4 in the garage I am getting ready to sell on ebay this spring. For my boat I am keeping the high five for water sports and the lazer for cruising long distances.

Guess I never put two and two together, Thanks for purchasing my prop, but Im sure I must have thanked you before.

You dont have a 14.25 X 26P-27P Laser II or a Tempest do ya?

I think my boat was set up for a higher altitude when I bought it, Ive had to rejet and reprop both. I could run over 6,000 with the 23P, down to about 5,800 now. I want to try a three blade 26P-27P this summer, Im looking at a 25P Turbo right now.

LubeDude, dont buy a 26-27 without letting me know. I have some pretty neat stuff in that range.

Cool, Email me at micaiah9@juno.com with a list. :D

The fastest prop I have tried so far is a four blade Turbo 14.75 X 27 @ 5,400 RPM, so I know I can turn a 27 3 blade. But maybe a 26 would be better. Im going to raise the engine when I get it to the shop to exchange the intake system, so the larger diameter the better.

What, that tail ain't big enough for you, LD? :p

I'm about to do the play with props thing this spring, too. It was amazing on the old boat what differences there were in props. I will run a 19 High Five for about 95% of the time. It's that 5% I'm gonna try and fill up with a faster prop. I'm starting with a 22 Turbo II when I get the boat home and the lakes thaw. I can't wait.

Wonder what happened to cwilt?

Re: hifive

Im thinking that if you tried a good 21P 3 Blade in a Stainless and some good cup, you may like it. Its hard to believe the difference in an SS.

What engine are we talking here and what type of a boat?

Re: hifive

The key to happiness is the x dimension. That is where your motor is mounted vertically on the transom. With the boat on the trailer and the motor trimmed down (you may need to put the trailer tongue on the gorund) take a straight edge on the lowest part of your hull, and see where it lines up on your cavitation plate on that 90 ya got. The plate should be above your straight edge a little for starters.

Different props perform better at different x dimensions. My guess is you would want to raise your motor and go with a 22-23 pitch 3 blade. I personally like the Stilletto and Turbo props from Precision propeller. They are very aggresive. Post back where your motor is mounted vertically. I'm curious now.

BTW- Lube Dude what gear ratio is on your lower unit? 60 with a 25 pitch seems slow to me. Maybe your ratio is different than my 1.87.

Re: hifive

What year is and model is your motor? Maybe my Clymer's has that in there. With a 1.87 LU (pretty common on Merc V6's) you are at around 18% slip. Not very good. Not to gloat, but I cna get 60 with a 21 pitch! You got some more speed lurking in that rig if you want to find it. If you have a manual, factory or Seloc or Clymer, the ratio should be in there.

Same prop (25 pitch) with 7% slip would get you 68.3 MPH.

Re: hifive

Sorry cwilt, I was referring to LubeDude in my last post. Measure that x dimension on your setup. If you are solely looking for speed, I would recommend a three blade prop.
