I worked for a Bayliner dealer in the 80's in Pasadena,Md 20mi from Baltimore.We sold 300+ boats a year.
One day I had run this new boat on an auxillary tank and was supposed to take it to the gas station and put in 40 gal for the new customer.
I was assigned a special order and someone else was gonna get the gas. Well it never happened.
The Salesmans job was to drop the boat in the river and take the customer for a short shakedown cruise. This usually took about an hour.
I had to take a repair boat for a sea test and followed shortly.I got to the ramp just as the salesman finished swimming this 25ft boat back to the ramp.He was holding the rope in his mouth. He had swam about 1/10th of a mile and was REALLY upset. The water was cold he looked like a drowned rat. The customers were already half drunk when they left the dock and were really riding him. They asked if he wasn't doing anything later if he'd mind pulling them to Baltimore Harbor.Jerry
