Can someone enlighten me on the differences between high and low profile outdrives on 70's style OMC stringer electric shift units?

Thanks.

Re: High or low profile?

The high profile is about 6-8 inches longer and I don't think it has a teleflex tru-course steering system. The bearing housing in the upper gear case is also taller, as is the water pump shaft.

So far as I know the lower units are the same on both the high and low profile units.

And the reason for low/high profiles was that low profiles were used with Ford engines becuase of how the engine mounts sat on the stringers.
