High Performance over-the-hub exhaust-style props

Some years Mercury made some solid-hub props, which did not have the thru-hub styling. Mercury intended the exhaust gases to cause the prop to slip (ventilation). Did these ever take off?

Related question: If you install a prop from an inline Merc on a Mercruiser Alpha, the exhaust hub will be 1/2 smaller than the LU gearcase. This will cause the same exhaust in the blades. What is the effect?

Chris, there was a thread a few days ago about drilling holes in the prop, interesting read, and about what you are asking about.

Yes - the over the hub exhaust style props are still used in some racing applications.

I have no idea if the prop switch you propose in the related question would work.
