This is a new to me engine, it appears to be in very good shape. Compression checked between 115 and 120 in all 6 holes, and starts right up with no trouble. Supposedly the powerhead was rebuilt less than a year ago, and it does look nearly new - all the hoses, covers, linkages, etc. are pristine. I just finished rigging it on my boat a little while ago and haven't had a chance to lake test it yet.

While running on the hose with the cowl off I can hear a high pitched chirp or squeak, but only from in front of the engine, can't hear it from behind. It seems to vary with engine speed. I can't exactly locate it's origin, but it seems like it's coming from somewhere in the vicinity of the VRO fuel pump (the oil side is plugged off, by the way), and it doesn't seem to make a difference if the air box is on or off.

Anyone ever hear this before?

Have heard something similar that comes from bad exhaust cover gaskets.
