I rebuilt carb of a 1995 Johnson 6HP (J6REOD) and noticed the high speed orifice was size 50, but current parts schematics show 38. I bought the engine when 2 years old and doubt the carb was previously rebuilt.

Do specifications change, or could they have simply decided this engine ran better richer when they manufactured it?

Actually, the parts list shows #38 for the 6hp, and #50 for the 8hp. Makes me think somebody has swapped carburetors in an effort to make an 8hp out of it.
