Hello All,
Saturday we were heading out to do some fishing and to test the cooling water pressure alarm when the pressure switch blew up. It couldn?t handle the increased pressure from the new tap location. (see: http://www.marinetteboat.com/forum/yaf_postst566_Boy-am-I-STUPID.aspx)
As she was coming up on plane I heard a ?pop?, like a cork out of champagne. And then the low pressure alarm sounded. Oh crap. Killed the engine and saw water seeping out onto the cockpit floor at the bottom of the helm. Inspected the electrical compartment where the switch is and there was water all over inside. The switch top was blown off the diaphragm case and dangling from the wires. Luckily nothing was shorted out. Pinched the pressure line tubing off with 2 tie wraps for a temporary fix and continued our fishing trip.
When we got the boat back home, I installed a new adjustable (.5-15psi) low pressure switch that is rated at 30# burst pressure and checked the gauge mounted at the helm. It is rated at 100# burst.
Here are the readings so far:
RPM - PRESSURE
1000 - 1.5
1600 - 3
2000 - 6.5
2500 - ?
3000 - ?
3500 - ?
Going to go fishing again on the 10th of October and do some more testing. :-"
Obviously not rated for applied pressures!
