Highest performance aluminum propeller?

I am currently running a 21P Turning Point Hustler, on my 16' Avenger/135HPV6. It is vented and has pretty good rake, and I can just touch 6000RPM/60MPH. Since Hurricane Sandy took all my other props, I ought to get a spare prop. Is there a higher performance prop than the Hustler, for my application?

Merc. Gearcase is from a late 80s clamshell motor. I presume it is 2::1

1994 sales brochure shows the 135 of 2000 cc at 2:1 as Chris presumed.

Re: Highest performance aluminum propeller?

Mark, Do you have the gear ratio for say an '88 Merc 150? The '93 motor was an XL. I used the parts from that '88, plus some from my '73 Merc 850 to build the Longshaft motor. It is probably 2::1, but as that is an interest of mine, the real question is the original one? Does anyone know of a higher performance aluminum prop than a 3 blade TP Hustler? A bow lifting prop might be a good idea.

Can't help you on the gear ratio. On XL engines I do know that they run the small housing LU like is used on the lower hp engines (like mine) and run the ratio at 1.78 or 1.87, with the latter being special order. They are made for light, easily planing, fast boats. The Hustler has all the goodies of most SS blades and ports that some don't have with the only exception being material. The Hustler is advertised to be high rake and mine does provide bow lift like my SS props.

My gearcase is the larger diameter(4-3/4"), like the Mercruiser Alpha.

Is that an aluminum TP? I like TP's and have I think 4 at the moment. Are you looking for top end or something else? My TP's pitch for pitch rob me of a few mph on top end as they are a bit too aggressive for my little 4.3. They get out fast and never blow out no matter what but I pay on the top.

I am looking for top speed. I would think bow lift would be the way to get it.

Re: Highest performance aluminum propeller?

The TP's just based on my set up and having used them for a few years are not going to be the best at the top just because they are so much more aggressive. From 21" non TP to 21" TP I think I lost about 300 or so rpms. The difference is that to get going fast now, I'm forced to trim up to a point not possible with my non TP props. The payback is that I can turn hard and it keeps it's bite.
If I decided I wanted more top end I personally would explore other options. They are a good choice for me as I really rarely go wot very long anymore.
