Re: Highway Patrol upping their game...

Would you like to know why it will not do very well in the US?

Its built in Australia, many MANY Departments will not allow a non US built car into the fleet, sucks too as I have heard as well it is a very very fast car...

That may factor into some department's decisions, but the line that separates domestically produced cars and imports has become very fuzzy as of late. Some American companies assemble cars elsewhere, and some foreign companies assemble them here in the U.S. The Ford CVPI was built in Canada, iirc, and that didn't seem to be a major factor in fleet decisions as that was one of the most popular police sedans in the past 15 or so years.

I definitely don't anticipate seeing Hondas, Kias, Toyotas, or Nissans being purchased for police fleets anytime soon.

Back in 2008 Indianapolis purchased 85 Camry Hybrids for police work, they even paid more for the Toyota ($1700 more than a Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid). 85 vehicles isn't a fleet, but its a start. :D

Very interesting...I wonder if they still have them? I also wonder how well received that decision was? I assume they were primarily used for admin and support staff, or were they "patrol" vehicles? Neat idea and I wonder how it worked out for them.

I'm sure they still do, but they are mainly used for detectives and such... not so much on patrol. Arkadelphia, AR uses the same (Kentuckian built) Camry Hybrid for patrol.

NYPD uses (TN or MS built) Nissan Altima Hybrid's for patrol vehicles... they also use (Mexican built) Ford Fusion Hybrids.

Kind of strange where these things are made, isn't it? I'm sure most received the Camry's and Altima's like some folks choose to do... if one steps back and takes a look at which companies are putting food on American tables, the reception would go a lot smoother, I'm sure. ;)

Whats your point? I thought those were the northernmost states of the US??:D

I don't make the rules here just telling you what I have been told, I wonder if its North America? I don't know but I do know that at least 4 departments in my area did not invite the Caprice for this reason, I also know of others that have the same policy due to who I know across the nation. I don't care if the Caprice was made in Australia, but I'm not making the policy either.

My Local HP has a nice 2010? Corvette Z07? that patrols on I-40 alot. It was confiscated and turned into an unmarked speederstoper. I saw a guy come off an onramp and punch his fast car as he passed the Vette riding infront of me one day. He was pulled immediatly by the Trooper.

This our local sheriff and behind him is his Mustang GT patrol car and below is the undersheriff and his Cadilac cts. Both of the cars were seized from drug dealers. I got a chance to ride with the undersheriff and that caddy moves.

Our local troopers are all driving Chargers except one, and he still has a Vic. Even our local police have a charger. (The city cops have been very vocal, saying that they do NOT like it!!).

My brother flew into Detroit and rented a Charger this past weekend. He said it did 105 before it started shaking a little. That was on I-94 and that road will beat you to death He liked it and it was a $10.00 upgrade from the economy car.
