Does anyone know where to get one of these other than special order? I was at the marina today and asked to get one and was told they could order one but that most people didnt use the actual tool. I asked where or what they used and the answer was vague so I called another marina and they told me to look at a farm supply store. Called all of them and still no luck.

I just have no idea what they were talking about as to where to get one. I have one on special order now but I am wondering what everyone uses.

Thanks,

Chris

Haulnazz I have a merc Alpha one. Thanks to everyone for the info. I was a little worried about stripping with an allen wrench but I will just be careful and use what everyone else uses.

Thanks,

Chris

Thanks Chris. If you had a pre-alpha, it would be a different tool (or fix) to get the hinge pin out. I happen to have an Alpha I hinge pin tool I believe if you want it, and I'm in Tulsa!

You can get them on ebay all day long for about 12-15 bucks.

Haulnazz that is very generous of you. I tried the half inch allen wrench but one side was way too tight and I dont want to have to drill it out. I would like to work on the boat tomorrow and if you want to meet early let me know. I will pm you my contact number. If you have something going on dont worry I will just get the one on order.

Thanks,
Chris

Re: Hinge pin removal tool

like you were told.
the hinge pin is installed with locktite.
sometimes you have to heat them to soften the locktite, without heat the hinge pin tool snaps way faster than a 1/2" allen.
I own one but never use it as I got tired of breaking them.

"like you were told" ?????? I am not a child. Why dont you ask if I used heat? I sprayed it with WD 40, I used heat, I worked on it for over an hour and it was still stuck. I dont want to have to drill it out. One side came out fine but the other is not coming out. I appreciate all the help everyone is giving me but save the condesending bs for someone else.

Re: Hinge pin removal tool

Just an update, this was brutal to pull this off. We rounded over 2 allen wrenches and the actual tool and still couldnt get it loose. We heated it up with a regular torch and with the rosebud and still couldnt get it. We finally used the TIG welder to spot weld the hinge pin tool to the hardened steel pin and put a 4 foot cheater on the breakover and 2 of us stood on it and it finally broke free. Thanks to everyone for thier help.
