I was rushing to make a move after taking a nap and cleaning the side of the boat therefore I started moving about 5mph. Clunk clunk my anchor met my stainless steel prop. Immediatly put it in neatrol and beat myself up about it. Anyhow i pulled the boat out and my stainless steel prop was dinged up a little, measured the shaft with a dial indicator to see if it was bent, and it was less then .002". Now getting to the point I have a nice crack (reference the pictures). Curious to know what the best fix would be. So far from my research I might be able to get away with some JB weld and maybe during the offseason get it welded.

Does that sound like the best thing to do?
Should I be worried about its current state?

I've smacked my skeg a couple of times on an under water object and took a chunk out of it twice.
I just brought it to a local welding shop in my area and they welded back into good as new shape. The skeg or the cavitation plate are of the same material.

They can weld it and then they spray some black paint on it and you're back to where it was. I paid around $50-75 both times. I could use another touch up again. Even though I have a combo GPS/depth finder if I travel out of the channel on the Hudson River with it's 6-8 foot tide it's easy to find a sunken piling or a sand bar that was not there a few hours ago
Rivers also tend to have moving water logged sections of trees or sections of someone's dock floating along that are just under the water line, just waiting for me :(

Should be able to be welded with no problems.

Dont look to bad.... Aleast there are no chunks missing...... Can be welded with ease.
Had some of the same issues with mine, we hit something last year!

Here ya go...... Pics from my pontoon boat lower drive! Made the repair myself yesterday.
