Hit Rock need to fix

Hi, I have a 1980 22 foot aquasport. I went out last night and on my way back I ran straight into a rock. I thought I was going to die but once the tide came up I was on my way.

The hull got damaged but no water leaked in. I took the boat out and there are some bad scratches on the bottom. Some are about 1/4 of an inch deep. The fiberglass is showing. I was going to try and fix it with Marine Tex but I couldn't get the fiberglass dry.

Leave it out of the water for a few days, it should dry up. Marine Tex is the right product. Just check for cracks.

The fiberglass has been dripping all day; it's like a sponge. Is this normal, under the circumstances?

Makes me wonder if something is not soaking wet above the hull.

Foam is looking for a way to get rid of water like electricity needs the closest way. What kind of boat are we talking about here?

you whacked it harder than you thought....

the reason it is still dripping is because there is still water behind the area and it is dripping thru the hull....

dont panic....it can be fixed easy.

you must find out why there is water in the hull....either there is water in the bilge....or your foam is soaked,,,,,(being over 20 feet ...i dont know why there is foam)

once the water is out of the hull....the drip will stop.....

after that.....look at the glass from the outside....is it white?....if it is you have to grind it out.......if you grind it out...you have to add a layer of glass.....(its better to fix it from inside and outside than just outside)

after its glassed fill with marine tex or gellcoat.......


if your stumped after you get the water out...just post back....we will walk you thru it.....its really not that big of a deal....no worries

Drill a few 1/4" holes and see it that helps it drain. They are easily repaired after the hull is dry.

How far should I drill the holes in the hull? An inch or 2 deep?

id just put the bow. way up high.....there might be a blockage in the bilge channel....you have to unblock it any way......

then just pull the garboard plug

Can I use Marine text with the fiber glass fabric or does it have to be resin?

Also how many layers of fabric have to go on. I was planning on filling everything in with the Marine TeX.

It has finally gotten dry. I used a wet/dry vac and sucked all the water out.
