I was wanting to get a new propeller anyways,, i wanted to improve my wake. any suggestions??

also if you notice the worst part about the picture is the rutter snapped off the outdrive as well. has anybody had this happen or has tried to use a boat with it missing? do i have to replace the whole outdrive??

Wow. They sell a skeg repair piece, but I'd be concerned that you trashed something in the drive with that many huge chunks missing.

yeah we hit really hard. it sucks.. we werent even that close to shore, prob a bout 40ft out, at least! and we complained to the park staff that there should be some warning but they really didnt care

i was thinking about just replacing the propeller myself but maybe i should have someone look at the drive too. do you think i should wait on buying a propeller untill i get a professional to look at everything?

they make a ss skeg guard that is a bolt on piece. PO of my boat put one on. usually people put them on for cases like yours. when i took mine off i was suprized to see that the skeg was still there. he must have put it on just to add strength.

if it were me, i would find a good welder of outdrives (alum) and have him fix it. the bolt on skeg guard works and its harder than nails but it is thicker...which ads drag.

i didnt know you can weld aluminum and unfortunately i dont have the piece that broke off anyways. i'll probably look into the bolt on repair kit. thanks!

yes aluminum can be welded. the welder needs to be good.

ok ill try again... It looks like your leaking oil also, unless its a shadow... Youve likely nuked some inside parts as a ss prop is a pretty tough cookie, im guessing thats been stated... So check where that oil is coming from... Looks like its leaking from my end here... Good luck... Maybe this post will stick this time....

I hit something this spring, took it in and they had to get a complete lower unit. I did not have near that damage. I would recommend taking it into a place to have them check it out. Also dont forget, it you have insurance it may cover that. My insurance saved me $3500.

It definitely looks like the seal to the lower leg is leaking. You really should have it looked at before popping for a new prop... it might be money better spent from the looks of your picture. The prop shop can add the aluminum, you do not need the original pieces. for the prop anyways...

Do you have the type of prop hub with the plastic sleeve? I believe it is called a flo torq hub. If you do then that plastic will break before your outdrive, if not, then you may be in trouble as the outdrive parts will take the full brunt of that collision

As long as everything is straight and your not leaking drive oil, you can get a replacement skeg or it can be welded. As far as the prop goes, to get a better wake you will want a 4 blade prop with a smaller pitch. I do alot of wake sports behind my boat and i use a composite prop that you can adjust the pitch on so it like 5 props in one, plus you can replace the blades individually. I am pushing 205hp on a 21ft 3000lb boat and never have any issue, it tougher then aluminum but cheaper then stainless steel. I get great bit in the water and the best part is i can adjust the pitch on the fly if i need to. I am sure you will be told to stay away from it but i have had mine for 3yrs and have replaced one blade, i have hit logs and what not and does no more damage then it would to an aluminum prop but dosnt bend like an aluminum.

You want some authorized service dealer to check your drive... It is a "Collision" so your Insurance should cover them. Claim your accident before too late.. This is what your insurance is for... I done it as well.... Did not look that bad but the repair cost over $6000 to replace drive...
Insurance took care of it....

I did exactly the same thing in my first boat, an IO. Came off plane, I was 150 feet offshore, WHUMP WHUMP WHUMP. My heart skipped. Unfortunately for me, and this is why I'm thinking you may have been lucky, _I_ was running a stainless steel prop at the time. Bent my (OMC) prop shaft and because it was bloody OMC it took a while to get the part - not to mention it was very expensive. Oh and it took a while to diagnose that the prop shaft was bent as well, it was ever so slight. I still have the bloody thing hanging in my garage as a reminder, though I sold the boat after I got it all back together.
