Hi I have a 20' deep vee on a single axle trailer, pulling it with a Ford Excursion. I was thinking of adding a couple of feet to the receiver tube to aid in launching, the back end, or hitch is low. Appreciate info anybody done this? Adding to the trailer is alot of work. Thanks

You can usually find a receiver hitch extension for pretty cheap... and easy to install. If you are wanting to modify the trailer tongue... you need to be careful with the tongue weight. A bolt on folding tongue by fulton is an easy diy er project. You could post a pic of your trailer tongue if that's what you want to modify... and you'll get tons of ideas from people. Let us know...

If you search around, there are quite a few people that fab up a 'pole-in-a-pole' type tongue. Basically slice your tongue off, then weld a smaller piece of tubing that just fits inside, and then drill some holes in it. One set is for normal towing, which gives you a normal tongue length, and a second set for extended operation. (make it as long as your trailer will physically allow, the limit is where the extension hits the Y part of the frame.)

Both ideas sound good ! I currently don't have a welder :(but I will look at the bolt on folding type. The center of the Y is square tubing which would work again if I had a welder.

I've got a welder, and I still wouldn't trust myself to weld that up! Any metal work shop will do it for you cheap, especially if you prep it first.
