Re: hmc marine

What, exactly, is a hmc marine 6500?

It is not an outboard engine that I ever heard of.

Re: hmc marine

OK, I did some looking. HMC is the stock code for Honda Motor Company, but their model numbers don't fit that.

However, I did find a reference to an HMC 6500 outboard on the Australian version of eBay. The thing wasn't there anymore, but the Google search had the description of it as a very small 2 stroke.

That led to another search, where I found a reference on the Tanaka site to the Cruise 'n' Carry outboard, which was, according to the reference, made by HMC / Green Machine (Hawaiian Motor Corp).

Finally, I found a reference in an iBoats thread from 2004:

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=11125

It is, in fact a Cruise 'n' Carry.

Not that all of that is much help. Aside from eBay, you're kinda on your own for parts for the things.

Re: hmc marine

I have new information:

The HMC 6500 model of the Cruise 'n' Carry is the 1.2 hp model, from 1977-1980. Weighs just 12 lb. There's one on eBay right now with two days left on the auction. Bidding is up to (wait for it....) $172.50.

Manufacturer was, apparently, Shindaiwa, in Japan.

Cute as a bug's ear, they are. However, I don't think I need one. Parts? Hah!

Re: hmc marine

thanks guys, yes it is cute and 12 lbs seems a bit much i did not think it weighed 8lbs if that. it did not want to spin and i split it apart. the shaft was frozen to a bushing .the rest just needs cleaning up.

Re: hmc marine

I picked up a HMC outboard motor at a flea market recently. Just thought it looked interesting. The id plate on the motor states it was made in Japan and is model number 6500, serial number 02220. Looks to be fairly complete, and in decent shape. Motor is all silver, with a small 2 blade prop, and weighs 10 lbs. Anyone with info or interest would be appreciated. Thanks.
