HOA's, you got to love them...

Monday it will be the 30th day since I filled and turned in my request to build my fence. 2 boards members had looked at my request and approved it which proves it is not that big of a deal to look at the request which is nothing more than a photo of the materials and a sketch of how the fence is going to lay in the property. All I need is 3 approvals but no one else seems to be worried about my request and their lack of urgency is short of appalling. At this point they will not even answer my calls at the hoa office and going in there is a waste of time as the receptionist will not let you in. So I will start my fence regardless and they can come an B all they want. No one obey the covenants anyway and im sure the little respect that the board shows the home owners is a big factor. I cant wait until this economy betters so I can get the heck out of this house....
Thanks for letting me vent...

Our HOA states that no response within 30 calendar days can be considered as no-objection. Double check your covenants.

I hate HOA's and thier busybody tendencies. I refuse to own a house in an HOA.

Well Said.

HOAs Suck for sure & they think they are Gods. Why buy property that you really don't own since you have to ask permission to do most anything. It is already bad enough you have to deal with Government medaling charging you for the privilege of owning property.

I don't pay mine much attention. I stay away from them unless it is some major project. I respect authority from professionals but nosy neighbours trying to push me around authorises my passive aggressive behaviour. Luckily we have enough rednecks in our hoa that they get that seem feeling of intimidation!!

I'm not that far from the city of New Orleans, but I'm still pretty much out in the boonies. I have one boat in my driveway and another on the grass, in front of the house. Until recently, I also had a six wheel amphibious ATV parked in front of my workshop. Today, I had five outboard motors there. Three were on wooden motor stands, one small one on an aluminum motor stand with wheels and one is still hanging from a tree, on a winch assembly that I made from a trailer winch and a sling to go over a large branch.

Hmmmmmmmm ...... I'm thinkin' I just might not be an HOA kind of guy!

You think?

No HOA. Last weekend we had an 11 point buck hanging from the basketball hoop.

You would fit right in at my hoa...we have a redneck flair!! You just have to get a few rednecks to run as candidates for the board and vote 'em in. Come to my house sometime and we'll have a pig picking and I'll get some of hoa boys to bring the beer!!

LOL, I think you are actually how people justify HOA's. Seriously though, If I lived in the boonies I could care less about what's in your yard but I live in the 1/2 to 3/4 acre lot version of suburbia and I must admit I'd have a problem if my neighbor had 2 boats and 5 outboard motors out in plain site from the street. In the back yard I don't care.

Having said that I would rather you have all that stuff in your yard than to pay for a HOA. besides most HOA's are not boat friendly.

Re: HOA's, you got to love them...

We have an HOA and still have boats and RV's. Our HOA regulates/maintains our well and private road. Our water bill and HOA to take care of the road is a flat $200/year. All the water we can use... Road is in great shape... I am on the HOA so I can also monitor codes, etc. We have some issues but nothing we can't overcome. We were the first homeowners here and actually built the HOA regulations. They are realistic and make sense.

The ONLY reason we have them is for a loophole... the town would regulate our water and the bill would be about $100/month/family... no thanks... we are grandfathered from any changes unless we agree to allow the town to take over the covenants and HOA... that will NEVER Happen...

I know exactly what you mean! We bought in an HOA bc we liked the house, and it was in our price range.....and we needed to move fast. THey are not too bad about that stuff but I have been requesting a key to the Pool/Tennis courts for a YEAR.....NO RESPONSE, but heaven forbid you are 1 day late on the fees and they want their late charge! I dont have the time to drive to their office to complain in person but I will one of these days.,

AMEN! Couldn't live some where where they are going to telling me how to do things and keep things and voting on what I can and cannot do. Although I live in small township I have not pulled a permit yet; fence, pool, 3 decks, addition, porch not to mention all the work inside shhhhhhhh. I look at it this way It's my house, I pay my taxes on time and always vote to help the community so leave me and my house alone.

HOA's are for people who need someone to tell them what they can and can not do. :)

Damn Bond-o, Ain't it good living in the country with our pole barns and no fences or nosey neighbors!!!!!!!!!!

I love the country, very little government to get in our faces, and if they do we can confront them at the town board meetings with a group of people to have the busy bodies back down. America is all about freedom (or so it used to be) and to me HOA are nothing short of a collective.

I think HOA's have their place. If you don't want to live with a neighbor that paints his house purple with pink trim, or stores 5 beat down cars and boats on blocks in the front yard, then a HOA is definitely for you.

If you have a 'live and let live' mentality and want the freedom to do whatever you want to do, then maybe not so much.

Most will say, that getting permission to install or change something from the board isn't that big of a deal. Ensuring the properties are generally clean and tidy maintains property value and evokes neighborhood pride. Great, then a HOA is for you.

My inlaws live in a HOA neighborhood where they don't allow you to park your car in the driveway. Visitors are allowed to park in the driveway, but unless you're running in and out, they want the cars in teh garage AND the garage doors need to be closed.

Personally, On principal I'm not interested in asking anyone's permission to do anything. I could care less what my neighbors do and would resent my neighbors dictating what I'm doing with my property. However that is me. To each his own.

Re: HOA's, you got to love them...

Not all HOA are bad...it is like any form of government by representation. It is how you vote that makes the difference. If you do not vote or participate in board meeting you will get what someone else wants. We all live under local government rules, sometimes worse than an HOA. I consider my HOA a safe haven from the local jurisdiction. The majority of us home owners are boaters, hunters and fisherman so our HOA reflects that. Some people have moved into out HOA and want to change the rules to suit their lifestyles....all I can say is that they are out numbered and if they don't like it they made the wrong choice when they moved in.
