Ok, this is for the fans of the world's fastest team sport and in my opinion, greatest team sport....Hockey.
Tomorrow, boxing day is the start of the World Junior Hockey tournament...and its a gonna' be smokin'.
It is, of course, where the very best young players (under 18) in the world get together (prior to their NHL debuts) to stand tall and proud for their countries and see who is ready to rock...this includes our southern U.S 'cousinly' neighbours by the way!!;)
All of the greats have been there....Crosby, Ovechkin, Toews, Getzlaf, LeCavilier, Iginla, Kane...etc.
Now, as a Canadian I am in great anticipation of the tournament because....we are looking for our 6th straight gold medal.
So who is ready to bring it on?.....we're waiting...:D:D
Yeah baby, yeah!!!!!!

C'mon BP, the Under 18s are in Europe in April....the Under 20s are in Saskatoon starting now.
I realise that is not that big a mistake, but you are Canadian, and should know better! It does kind of embarass the rest of us....;)
People usually expect us to know what we are talking about when it comes to hockey.

I wish we would get MORE coverage of the tourney, and college even down here.

I am really a dinosaur, though, I live for the rough stuff. I miss defencemen that leave a pile of bodies on the blue line ( IE Scott Stevens and such) , or two men go into the corner, one come out.

I think for goalies, it's at the point that EVERY game Broduer just plays in, is a record, win or lose. Can you imagine, evry game a record?

I really like Martin, but I do miss the antics of Smith and Hextall.

Agree with the under 20's age group. Going to be a great championship again. Especially for us around here as we have 4 players from the Windsor Spitfires on the team this year. Hall, Ellis, Nemis and Henrique. All from the Memorial Cup winning team this year. I have been a "Spits" fan for many years. Wish they had taken a 5th Spitfire and put an entire line of them out there. Spitfires have 7 players missing right now for the World Juniors so are a little "short handed" till they return. Tim, my mistake...I stand (proudly) corrected. I always get that mixed up. I'm so used to few of the kids being over 18...or not returning (ie: Tavares, unfortunately)...I should have rechecked.;)
Now, that said.......the big Cdn. machine is warming up....so let's see who is up for some hockey!!;)

Reread MY post and "upon further review" it was more smart-a**ed than I had intended....wasn't meant to be. My apologies.

The drive for 5 was a great ride....it was here in Ottawa.
Not sure what a good catch phrase would be for #6.

Go Red!

as a kelowna rocket season ticket holder.....im sooo happy for you.......and mad as as junkyard dog at the same time....

our kelowna rockets picked the wrong time to slump in the memorial cup last year or there would have been a quite different outcome....:D :D :D

we are used to playing with 5 short during this season....its a real drag for the team....they are gone for a long time in the season at the worlds)

currently the game between canada and latvia is in the late stages of the second......i feel sorry for latvia....im mean....thats a killing......8-0 (make that 9-0) and 38-8 shots.......i actually cant watch any more
out of respect for latvia......time to go to the boat shop.

Well Oops, you left before the rest of the bloodletting. Final score 16-0 for Canada....almost like a basketball score.
Shots on net were something like 68-10.
Interestingly Latvia beat Russia 3-2 in the exhibition round....so we'll see who improves here and I'll be keen to see how Russia doing.
Hopefully there is going to be a little more competition coming along...and there usually is. I have a feeling the Swedes will put up a good game.
Canada plays against the U.S on New Years eve...and thats always a good game...and an excellent rivalry!!;):D
It just gets better and better:)

Thats a bit of a surprise Aspeck....with Pennsylvania, being a northern-ish state having a good hockey base to my understanding. It's pretty much a given it wouldn't get much air time way down south.
Regardless, the U.S had a good first game as well, beating down Slovakia 7-3.
If you do want to see some of the highlights of that game or any of the games check out TSN.CA (The Sports Network- Canada), who are covering the games. It's a great website and gives excellent coverage, feedback, stats, etc on this tournament and NHL stuff. They also do live podcasts I think....if you did want to pick up a period or so.
I watched the U.S/Slovakia highlights myself earlier today on it, some heavy duty hockey going on there.:)
All Good!!

Yup we love watching the Juniors also. I think its hockey at its purest. Just to win not the wage. But know saying that most of these kids already have contracts.

Re: Hockey fans....are you ready to bring it?

Well, thats (2) down!!! Canada over Switzerland 6-0. The U.S beat them earlier (yesterday) 3-0...so the Swiss need to pick it up a bit.
The much touted game will be Canada vs. U.S (New Years Eve)....and I'm looking forward to that one!!:D
At least todays game was a little closer than Saturdays with the Swiss playing a lot better. They are a pretty good team and they seemed to be a pretty big team all around.
Regardless.....its going to get tougher and better every day!!!
....love this tournament...how can you tell eh?
Oh, as well Congratulations Puddle Jumper on 2000 Posts!!! well done dude.;):D

I know as a Commander a lot of you have to salute me. On the flip side there,s a still a lot of people who I have to still salute.

Does this mean that I get the key to the washroom or do I still have the srcub brush in my hand:p

I am looking forward to the New years game also :)

Re: Hockey fans....are you ready to bring it?

Hope our guys can bring it. Its the only hockey I care to watch now. I'm a Bruins fan, and watched as Joe Thornton refused millions, then played in Switzerland for an uninsured hundred thousand bucks. I also watched on TV, when Bobby said "I'd've played for nothin'" (for the Bruins) after they didn't renew his contract.

What a great game...

Re: Hockey fans....are you ready to bring it?

Quick recap for those interested..
3 teams now tied for the top spot: Sweden, U.S.A, and Canada all with (3) wins and 0 losses each.
As well, another good game for Canada last night against the Slovaks with an 8-2 victory and earlier in the day the U.S boys laid a serious whoopin' on the Latvians with a 12-1 victory. Boy, those Latvians are takin' it on the chin.
Now...everyone put on their seatbelts for the New Years game with the ol' U.S of A against the Great White North. This is always a great rivalry and game.;):)
As well of interest is the fact that rumour has it that next year the tournament is going to held in Buffalo, New York. This is a great opportunity for everyone in the vicinity...Americans and Canadians to see some of the best hockey possible.
All Good dudes!!

Re: Hockey fans....are you ready to bring it?

Ya wouldnt think there'd be hockey fans in Las Vegas, but there are!
since 1/2 the people here are from Michigan...we love our hockey! Now if we could only get an NHL team!

Redwings are my fave.......

ECHL locally we have the Wranglers, they usually do well in thier bid for the Kelly Cup....we usually get second or 3rd place each year....
good fun at the Orleans Casino Ice Rink for $17 tickets if yall visit during hockey season, the arena holds about 7000 people
cheaper fun than losing your money at the craps table in 2 seconds!
