Hoist to swap a motor in a large boat

I have a questionable motor in my 28' express cruiser, and am planning ahead for when it blows and I need to replace it. Being so high, I don't know what I could use to hoist the motors in and out. Any ideas? I'm comfortable with the engine work itself, just don't know how to physically move the motors.

alot of people use a boom, type wrecker. they will lift it out, and put where you want it and most of them are reasonable. to save money be totally prepared to lift it out and to mount to engine stand if thats what you are doing to do. they will charge a minimum, for so many hours, then you get charged if you go over.

travel lift that hauls boats out of the water at a boat yard.

One way is to get a tow truck to boom it out if you have a friend like that. Or if you know someone with a forklift

Check out the A-frame I put together and borrowed a chain block and tackle from a friend. I also used the same set-up to pull the SBC out of this 24 footer.......after the engine is high enough, just pull the boat out of the way.

Very similar to the project I'm working on. I'm glad to see it worked for you!<br />Did you have any problems or concerns with the legs bowing "out" with the weight on them?

BB nice frame. as a carpenter for 35 years. i'd like to see some bracing, tying the legs together and 45's coming from header to legs. is the header a 2x12?

thanks tash.....and good pick up........had to add the bracing when I pulled the SBC out of the 24 footer! And yes.....the header was a double 2X12.
