Holding down outboard fuel tank / battery?

Does anyone have any ideas how to hold down a 24 litre / 6 gallon fuel tank and battery?

They are going in my 10 ft marine ply mahogany runabout. The floor is basically 6mm ply, with longitudinal mahog. battens. The fuel tank wobbles and slides all over the place because its only sitting on top of the battens.
I could make a plywood tray, secure the tank to the tray with bungees and then screw the tray to the battens. The interior is all encapsulated with epoxy so I'd hate to pierce it with screws into the battens.

You might could just epoxy a 2 x 2 or so wooden frame on the deck that is a bit larger than the base of the tank. Actually, 4 blocks a few inches long put on each side should do it too.

That should 'corall' it, if you're out in rough water and think it might jump out as it gets near empty, put a bungee strap over it that screws in the wood frames but not all the way through the floor.

If you're a flat water boater, I'd think a piece of outdoor carpet stuck down to the deck under it would stop most of the sliding around. Once it sinks into the pile of the carpet, it should be pretty steady. And carpet tape shouldn't hurt the finish of the deck if you decide to pull it up and change it.

Hey Rudderman I use the stuff that goes in the drawers of your toolbox. It is made of a rubber material and really resists slipping. Good Luck
