I removed the outdrive from my 1992 Mercruiser and found that a hole has rotted through the bell housing near the bottom of the exhaust section. I've read a bit about how a hole in the exhaust bellows is not great but is also not going to leave you dead in the water. I assume this would be similar and that the hole must have been there when I had the boat in the water most of last summer. I've got to spend $$ on a bunch of other things and spending another $400 on this part plus the cost of bellows is killing me. Never mind the fact that I've never done a replacement before. I know its not a prefered fix but could I do nothing or patch it with some sort of high strength epoxy? Here is a picture.
