i have not gotten to the hole in the boat yet b/c i have been tearing out rotten wood from the deck of the boat. i think the majority of the probelm has been water leaking from the bilige area next to the engine. this has ruined the wood on the right side of the boat. looking from the transom towards the front of the boat. the left side is where the hole is and is in much better such. there was some rotten wood and i can get the hole from the inside. it not noticable yet where the hole when looking into the inside of the transom. once i find the hole should i place fiberglass on the inside then proceed to fix it from the outside as planned from the previous post/ discusions. i have alll the material i need. also do i need to paint or epoxy differently for the area next to the engine.

keep digging........

i think you might find transom problems.

search core sample........do one on the transom......if you find rot or wet......then you can get the hole from the back....and your life (for the hole) is a lot easyer.....the transom however....is another story !

Absolutely true! As oops mentioned there will be rot where you don't want it to be. All of the old wood has to come out and ( obviously ) replaced. Your biggest concern now is the stringers. If they fail then your motor shifts and that does nasty things to your drive. You're ahead of the game now so please don't just throw a band aid fix on her.
Yea, it's a lot of work but when you're done it will be 100%. The main idea is to have as much fun doing this as possible - don't make it a 'chore' or the task will be a lot more difficult to complete.

Re: hole in boat

i've gotten 90% of the rotten wood out and the foam that is in place is good. i've cut several area and it looks good and clean. i plan to clean out the rest put some fiberglass and expoxy and several layers w/ the west system products. i followed the instruction to the key in the cuddy cabin and everything has turned out well. i also recently ordered the fein multimaster and it cut my deconstruction time down considerably. i ordered some bilegekote once i fix the area around the engine. hopefully next summer will be a good one especially w/ another little one on the way. i read the instructions for that as well! haha.
thanks for the responses!

herd1234, what task are you using the fein tool for?...and what attachments are you using for those task? The reason I ask, is I have 2 fein tools. We have been using them for years in the auto glass replacement industry. There might be other task that I could be using them on and didn't know it.
