Hole in front of lower unit.

Hell every one,<br /><br />I took the boat out this weeken. Came home seeing<br />a tiny hole right in front of LU, right before holes where the water goes into water pump. a hole<br /> is big enough to poke a piece of wire in.MY question is, Does that section connect to other section in lower unit?. Will that hurt engine performance?, Can i fill a hole with Marine silecone? can that be weld it to fix it?<br /><br /> Any info will be appreciated. Cal.

That sounds like your speedometer intake hole. That hole leads to a hose that ends up connecting to your speedometer on the dash...<br />It's suppose to be there....<br /><br />This hole is on the leading edge of the lower unit...<br /><br />Is that where yours is?

I am not sure about that. I think what happened is<br /><br />I come close to shore. doing a bass finshing. I probaly hit the Rock, But , I did not kwon until I got home.the hole is about 3 inches from the bottom of lower unit. I knew It chipped off.<br /><br />How can I fix it? the motor is 2004 4stroke EFI 60HP.IT just about to break in. What should i do about it?<br /><br /> Thank you.

As KC says. There is a very small hole between the cav plate and leading edge of the gearcase like the one you describe. It is the speedo pickup.If you fill that one, the speedo will not work.

yup sound like the speedo hole. look above it and look if theres a small rubber hose.if there is its your speedo.

If it's the speedo hole yes....<br /><br />I guess to confirm what you are describing we may need a picture....<br /><br />But if it is on the leading edge of the lower unit just above the gearcase that has to be the speedo hole.... It should be about 1/16"-1/8" in diameter...
