Yesterday motor (1995 225 HP Evinrude) was running great then the throttle got stuck around 3 quarter throttle. Had to turn motor off. I got the throttle back to neutral. I think a bolt fell off of something and was jamming the linkage, I found a loose bolt that looks like it came off the manifold. After that the motor wouldn't start. I pulled all the spark plugs to crank it over and then put them back in to start it. It would run for 3 seconds then die.
Today I ran compression tests and no reading on top starboard cylinder. Brought piston up to TDC and there's a hole in it, about the size of a pencil.
Seems weird I would have a stuck throttle and then a hole in a piston.
Could water of gotten up there from the surge of water coming up on the motor when I turned the motor off and put a hole in a piston?
Spark plug is not broken or bent.
What are some of the causes of a small hole in a piston?
I'm dropping it off at the shop this afternoon.
Now I'm deciding whether to go for a repair or look for a rebuilt power head, used or rebuilt motor or the new motor. I wanted to move up anyway but wasn't ready for it yet.
