Ok I need help in deciding what to to do. A couple of days ago my son took my boat out and ended up sinking it. He stated that the plug came out and the boat started to take on water, he was able to get it to the bank but there was lots of large rocks there. The lake was a little rough and it just kept banging the bottom of the boat against the rocks. We were able to get it back to the boat ramp (with the help of the fire dept rescue boat) and on the trailer. The bottom of the boat has several large areas were the fibergalss was banged up pretty good and a few spots were it actually put holes in the boat. The boat is a 1974 Starcraft Stinger, I havent seen any of these boats around and I like the looks of it. What I need to know is it actually going to be worth fixing the holes on the boat. I will add pics shortly have to resize them.

I looked up you original post back in 09' when you bought the boat. That is a great looking boat. If you like it, and I can see why you would, then I would fix it. It does have some significant damage but the guys on here can give you what you need to get it done if you have the "Want To" to get it done. I would REALLY suggest you try VERY HARD to see if you could FLIP the boat to work on it. It would be SOOOOOO much easier to do especially since there is so much of it. Building a cradle to put her on is NOT that hard. Check out my thread to see how I build one for mine. A tow truck and some webbing straps could make short work of flipping her.

If the repairs fall within your time and $ zone then it might be worth it. I dont know the value of that boat..but I think its going to set you back a deck removal .. shore up .. lots of grinding/sanding/fairing painting ( or gelling ) etc.

Off the tippy top of my head a boatyard/shop probably going to be in the 4-6k range ( without knowing if there is a problem with stringer/bulkhead delams .. just what you see so far ) .

You Might be able to do that for about 1k ( not including tools or safety equip. ) depending on what finish coat you want to end up with.

The key is getting to the inside..once you get all your areas opened up from the inside it should be ( from what I see currently ) fairly straight forward repairs.

It will take time though..if your only working on the weekends then will take more time.

More questions or answers please tell.

PS. Have you checked the conditions of the stringer tabbings yet ?

I don't know, that's a really cool hull but it's basically totaled. I'd be looking for another hull to put my outboard on I think.
