Holes in the cover :P

Hi guys! =)

I'm currently restoring an old Evinrude Sportwin, 1961, 10 hp.

Before it came to my possession, someone drilled holes in the cover as seen in the picture below..

Since I'm going to repaint it, I was planning on covering these holes. But before I do so, I would like to know why they where made in the first place.

I'd really appreciate if anyone could tell me =)

It looks like they might have been mounting holes for some type of Emblem or something, maybe an Evinrude emblem?...

Feel stupid I could'nt see it myself

The big hole to the left can't possibly be a mounting hole though..
And it looks to perfect to be from an accident

Yep, I was referring to the 4 small holes that appear to be in some type of pattern. If they're for an emblem, then it might be a challenge to find one or two to restore your motor to original looks and condition. Maybe E-bay or some of the "outboard geezers" on here might help you.

The eight small holes are for the stylized Evinrude "E" logo used on many of those old motors. It would be two plastic pieces, same shapes, different color in the recess. The bigger one looks like actual damage from an impact...

Nice thing about fiberglass hoods, a bit of Bondo and good as new.
