Holes in Tramsom...

After many years of use on this boat it has a ton of holes in the hull/transom area. Since I am rebuilding the boat I would like to plug most if not all of these holes before I put the transom in and close up the deck. Anyhow, what would you all suggest for plugging all these holes? No way I use all of them, also the motor brackets holes may be different based on the motor I put on here so starting fresh seems logical. Open to any and all suggestions.

Re: Holes in Tramsom...

When I do a motor swap that has different mounting holes i take a wooden dowel (I use the wooden dowel because it swells when it gets wet) and cut it about 1/4" shorter than the thickness of the transom, cover the dowel with 5200 push it into the hole and leave an 1/8" on both sides, and then fill in the 1/8" on both sides with marine tex, sand it down and repaint/gelcoat. most people cant even tell it was repaired if I take my time.

That's a real good answer you just got there.

So put the transom in your saying and then drill the holes as if I was going to use them, and fill them with the method you explained?

Have you ever had issues if someone went back through the same holes? Or say part of them?
