I have a 1974 Mercruiser 888 with an aftermarket marine Holley 4 bbl installed. At about 1700 rpms I have a dead spot, and if I don't pass it quick enough the engine will die. Also, I need some advice on adjusting the idle and jets. My book only talks about the factory 2 bbl that was originally installed.

Re: Holley 4bbl problem / adjustment

Ask away, Ive had just about every HOLLEY they make apart and tuned many also. None of them ever worked right again though.

Just kidding, I do know alot about them, what do you want to know? The flat spot is probably jetting or the vacume diaphram is too strong in the secondary side, Maybe a power valve too.

I guess what I'm asking is, what is the procedure for properly adjusting the carb? I want to make sure everyting is right before I decide it needs a rebuild.

Thanks

Unbolt from intake manifold and throw overboard (same as Lubedude they never work right again) but seriously it sounds like you need a rebuild not adjustments.
