Re: Holley carb rebuild

Denny,
Here's what Holley says
With this statement there must be a major difference

Here's something from Coast Guard on fuel meteringhttp://www.uscgboating.org/safety/boatbuilder/fuel/183-526-b.htm

If it was my choice I would not mess with chance of blowing up and get a rebuilt 4160 Part #: 0-80319-1 and see if they will take your current one as a core exchange

Im being told the do not make a rebuild of this part number also. $450.00 new

Holy crap no wonder the previous owner put a street carb on:)

A squarebore should fit a squarebore, but if you take an overhead picture with flame arrestor removed, we can tell you more about fuel line and throttle linkage.

I am not familiar with that Ebay supplier. Try to find actual customers to talk to.

Re: Holley carb rebuild

Just my experiences....:

I found a standard Holley kit for mine. It is a dual inlet style carb, stock from a 1991 Volvo Penta 570, 5.7 4bbl 270hp. Mine is definitely a Marine carb and is definitely what Volvo put on there from the factory.

There is a listing number on the airhorn, or maybe on an attached tag. It is a longer number than 0-3310 or other numbers. That listing number can be used in a search for the exact carb you may have. Mine showed it as a stock carb for a 427 Cobra, 735 cfm, staggered jets in the primary metering block, seconday metering plate ( no metering block), weakest secondary spring, and the "wierd" 2.5 powervalve.

For mine, any standard 0-3310 kit for the dual inlet style carb has all the gaskets and fittings for the carb. The powervalve in the kit will probably not be correct as it will be for an automotive application carb, but everything else inside the carb is the same, auto or marine. These Holley kits come with the nice blue gaskets, reusable to a degree. I also found a nice 3/8" base plate gasket by matching up to ones at the parts store. The one I finally found was listed as being for a high performance 454 Chevy, I had to trim some of the middle part of the gasket off to match my manifold.

The only thing that was out of spec from the kit was the powervalve that came with it, it was a 6.5 and the carb specs show a 2.5. The parts place that had it also had a 3.5 power valve in the separate parts section so I bought and used that one.

I also had some secondary springs leftover form some previous hotrodding. I changed out the weakest yellow spring for a closer to stock spring. I did this because I could tell the secondaries were opening too far too soon and full throttle would produce a bog. The telltale sign was the momentary rushing/whistling air sound that would accompany a throttle down after a close to WOT run.

The rebuild went well, but I have rebuilt many Holleys in the past. Carb works great.
